A design review is running. A tolerance stack-up doesn't look right. A material choice is about to become a cost and reliability problem six months from now. You spot it early, fix it properly, and the whole programme stays on track. If that sounds like your kind of win, this role will suit you. Rubicon is recruiting on behalf of a highly regarded engineering business in the Wareham area, working on advanced maritime technologies where precision, reliability and engineering discipline aren't "nice to have", they are the standard.

This opportunity is for someone who wants real technical ownership, the space to think properly, and the influence to shape what "good" looks across design.

Why this role exists: The work is complex and the stakes are high. They need a Senior Design Engineer who can lead mechanical design activity end-to-end, from concept to architecture through CAD, documentation, review, and integration support with a methodical, engineering-led approach.

What's in it for you:

  • £60,000 per annum
  • Flexible working hours to support personal commitments
  • Enhanced annual leave (additional days with length of service)
  • Life assurance and income protection
  • Master Trust pension scheme with competitive employer contributions
  • Professional subscription reimbursement
  • Free onsite gym access + wellbeing initiatives
  • Free onsite parking + electric car charging points
  • Health and wellbeing support including remote GP, physio and mental health

What you'll be doing as Senior Design Engineer:

  • Leading the design and development of mechanical systems for complex applications
  • Producing and reviewing CAD models, drawings and technical documentation
  • Defining system architectures, materials and components to meet engineering requirements
  • Supporting integration, testing and commissioning across disciplines
  • Conducting design reviews and ensuring compliance with technical standards
  • Collaborating with suppliers and stakeholders to resolve technical challenges

What you'll bring:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline)
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design disciplines including stress, materials and manufacturability
  • Proficiency in CAD software (Solid Edge preferred)
  • Experience designing for cost, reliability and testability
  • Ability to interpret technical requirements and translate them into robust solutions
  • Knowledge of systems engineering or multidisciplinary design environments
