Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for SCADA Specialist/ Commissioning Engineer on a 6 Week Contract, based in Scotland.

Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced SCADA Specialist / Commissioning Engineer with strong substation and power systems experience for a short-term contract supporting commissioning activities on a major energy infrastructure project in Scotland. The successful candidate will have a strong background in SCADA systems, substation automation, and commissioning of HV infrastructure, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced site environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commissioning and testing of SCADA systems within HV substations
  • Integration and validation of substation automation and control systems
  • Point-to-point testing and verification of communications
  • Interface testing with protection relays, RTUs, PLCs, and network equipment
  • FAT/SAT support and on-site troubleshooting
  • Review and interpretation of technical drawings, schematics, and I/O lists
  • Support energisation activities and site acceptance processes
  • Ensure all commissioning activities are completed in line with project procedures and safety standards
  • Produce commissioning documentation, reports, and test records

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a SCADA Engineer or Commissioning Engineer within HV substations
  • Strong understanding of substation control and automation systems
  • Experience with SCADA integration and communications protocols such as:
    • IEC 61850
    • DNP3
    • Modbus
    • IEC 104
  • Experience commissioning:
    • RTUs
    • Protection relays
    • Network switches
    • PLCs and control systems
  • Ability to fault-find and resolve commissioning issues on site
  • Previous experience working on renewable, transmission, or utility projects preferred
  • Comfortable working in live substation environments

Qualifications / Certifications

  • Electrical Engineering qualification or equivalent experience
  • Relevant HV Authorisations advantageous
  • Valid UK working rights
  • Full UK driving licence preferred
