Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for Multiple Commissioning Engineers on an initial 4-month contract, based in Scotland.

We are currently seeking 2 experienced Commissioning Engineers for a major transmission substation project in Scotland. This is an initial 4-month contract opportunity working on high-voltage transmission infrastructure within the 132kV–400kV range. The successful candidates will have strong transmission commissioning experience across both primary and secondary systems and be confident operating within live substation environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out commissioning activities on HV transmission substations from 132kV to 400kV
  • Execute primary and secondary injection testing
  • Commission protection and control systems
  • Perform interface testing and system integration activities
  • Support transformer commissioning activities
  • Conduct functional testing, fault finding, and diagnostics
  • Review and execute commissioning documentation, test packs, and procedures
  • Ensure all commissioning activities are completed in line with project specifications and safety standards
  • Liaise with client representatives, SAPs, engineers, and project teams on site
  • Produce accurate commissioning records and reports
  • Support energisation and outage activities where required

Requirements

Essential Experience

  • Proven commissioning experience within UK transmission substations
  • Strong background working on 132kV–400kV projects
  • Experience with:
  • Primary injection testing
  • Secondary injection testing
  • Interface testing
  • Transformer commissioning
  • Protection and control systems
  • Experience working in live HV substation environments
  • Understanding of transmission commissioning procedures and safety protocols
  • Ability to read and interpret schematic drawings and protection diagrams
  • Previous National Grid / SSE / SPEN / Scottish Power / Transmission Network Operator project experience desirable
  • Qualifications & Certifications

    • HNC/HND or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
    • Relevant HV authorisations desirable
    • CSCS/ECS card
    • Full UK driving licence
    • National Grid Persons / BESC / Competent Person tickets advantageous
