Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced M&E Supervisor to oversee the safe and efficient delivery of mechanical and electrical installation works on behalf of a Tier 1 framework contractor, supporting HVDC and high voltage substation projects. The successful candidate will provide hands‑on supervision of M&E teams and subcontractors on site, ensuring works are delivered safely, to programme, and to the required quality and technical standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Day‑to‑day supervision of M&E installation works on site, coordinating labour, subcontractors, and plant to meet programme requirements
  • Supervising mechanical and electrical installation activities across HV substation and/or HVDC converter station works
  • Carrying out daily briefings, toolbox talks, and site inductions to maintain a strong safety culture among the workforce
  • Conducting regular site inspections and quality checks to ensure works meet specification and design requirements
  • Reviewing and issuing RAMS, ensuring all works are carried out under a valid permit and in line with agreed method statements
  • Reporting progress, delays, and resource requirements to the Site Manager and project team
  • Supervising working at height activities, ensuring permits, rescue plans, and equipment checks are in place
  • Overseeing manual handling practices in line with site risk assessments
  • Coordinating with other disciplines on site to manage interfaces and avoid clashes between packages
  • Maintaining accurate site records, including diaries, inspection records, and as‑built documentation
  • Supporting testing and commissioning activities where required, working alongside engineers and client representatives

Requirements

  • Proven track record supervising M&E installation works on large‑scale electrical infrastructure projects — HV substation, converter station, switchgear installation, cable containment, or similar M&E‑intensive schemes
  • Strong hands‑on M&E background — candidates from a purely civil background will not be considered
  • CSCS Card (Supervisor level)
  • SSSTS — Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme
  • First Aid at Work (FAW)
  • Manual Handling certification
  • HVDC project experience — converter stations, cable routes, or BESS‑integrated schemes
  • Working at Height certification
  • Good working knowledge of CDM 2015 and supervisory health and safety responsibilities

Desirable

  • Experience on National Grid, SSEN Transmission, or similar DNO/TO‑owned infrastructure
  • Familiarity with Persons Authorisation or AP/CP regimes for HV environments
  • Previous work alongside OEM teams on converter station projects
  • IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent
