Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for a Network Engineer on a 12 months contract based in London.
Role Summary
This role has a direct impact on:
- Our Current & future Network Performance, Network Efficiency & Subscriber’s Experience (inc. Emergency Services Network).
- Ability to maintain & strengthen our position as #1 UK mobile network and push for global top ten network.
- Positive/Negative Perception/PR of Network performance/customer experience.
It achieves this by working with internal/external stakeholders and suppliers of Equipment/Services to deliver the “fit for purpose” RAN feature and parameter designs, subsequent tuning activities, Design & Performance validation activities and producing guidance on operational best practice for maintaining End User experience. This role has a significant impact on shaping the Mobile RAN Strategy & subsequent budget required to deliver this.
Your key accountabilities within the 4G/5G ESN Performance & Optimisation domain are:
- Validate 5G and 5+ design – via UE logs analysis and E2E tracing – develop action plan for performance uplift via parameter or feature optimisation - root cause of performance degradation, either from Oss trends, UE logs, crowd source data or other data sources.
- Conduct feature and or parameter optimisation trials for 4G/5G/ 5G+ RAN vendors (Nokia and Ericsson) and assess outcomes, quantify gains and impacts to wider network services.
- 5G Interworking with 4G, 5G SA, NSA.
- Own and drive improvement in all factors impacting Performance & reporting with the goal of providing optimal Customer Experience.
- Exceptional understanding of network performance trends with a view of rebase lining KPIs.
- Identifying the root cause and define measures to improve underperforming KPIs.
- Analysing drive test logs and Network protocol traces for underperformance & defects in ESN PTT over SRTP.
- Investigate detected and reported Systematic issues within this element of the ESN Service.
- Performance root cause analysis using multiple sources of data primarily from:
- UE Application events/L1/L2/L3 information
- Drive Test UE logs/Wireshark covering OSI L1-L7.
- ENodeB and CN protocol analysis.
- 3rd Party OTT (Over the Top) protocol traces.
- Coverage data.
- Capacity data.
- OSS performance data.
- Change logs.
- Stakeholder management – work with key SMEs to understand the root cause.
- Excellent Team player – ability to uplift team by knowledge sharing.
Technical Expertise:
- Expert knowledge of UE logs analysis.
- Expert level hands-on experience in 5G and 5G+ investigations, parameter optimisations and E2E Investigations.
- Expert understanding of E2E 4G, 5G, VoNR, SA, NSA, Slicing architectures and design.
- Expert understanding of Nokia and Ericsson vendor.
- Expert in Wireshark, TEMS, Accuver, Nokia and Ericsson eNB/gNB logging systems, tracing, and analysis.
- In depth knowledge of Mobile networks particularly 4G/5G & Public Safety functionality over LTE/5G+ with particularly deep understanding of network design, performance, and optimisation.
- In depth knowledge of 5G, 5G+, LTE & SIP signalling, PTT (push to talk), SRTP/DTLS troubleshooting & Optimisation.
- Good understanding of 3GPP & ETSI specifications.
- Good understanding of DTLS/SRTP protocol.
Requirements
MANDATORY:
- Extensive experience in mobile telecommunications industry in the role of a performance SME with business-critical, high-availability / high-throughput systems and networks.
- Able to provide technical solutions, processes definition for network performance & optimisation of 4G based RAN Macro network.
- Proven experience in defining and understanding KPI definitions, formula and measurements of radio networks.
- Able to analyse in depth, drive test logs, Wireshark traces and protocol analysers traces for 4G networks.
- Good Knowledge of LTE parameters & timers.
- Familiarity with test software & devices (Nemo/TEMs/Accuver) & post processing tools (Actix).
- Experience of working with 3rd parties’ network/IT Suppliers.
- Experience of Nokia RAN.
PREFERRED:
- Knowledge of multiple vendor products including Nokia and Ericsson.
- Knowledge of industry best practice methodologies for analysing, defining and documenting the link between input business requirements and output technical solutions.
- Understanding of project management techniques and tools.
- Experience of managing relationships with suppliers and third parties, of product/feature selection and of delivering those products into a production environment.
- Experience of working with LTE/5G Commercial network based Public Safety solutions.
