Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for M&E Supervisor on a 6 Month Rolling Contract, based in London & South East.

We are seeking an experienced M&E Supervisor to join site teams delivering works within the National Grid supply chain framework across London and the South East. Operating on a contract basis through a Ltd company, the successful candidate will take day-to-day supervisory responsibility for mechanical and electrical activities on high-voltage substation projects, ensuring safe, compliant and efficient delivery in line with National Grid standards and client requirements. This is a hands-on supervisory role requiring strong technical knowledge across both M&E disciplines, the ability to manage and motivate site teams, and a thorough understanding of the permit-to-work systems and safety standards applicable to high-voltage transmission environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise all mechanical and electrical site activities in line with the project programme, scope of works and client specifications
  • Manage and coordinate site teams of HV fitters, wiremen, electricians and subcontractors on a day-to-day basis
  • Enforce strict adherence to health, safety and environmental standards including National Grid safe systems of work
  • Hold and administer permits to work (PTW), LOAs and isolations in accordance with National Grid safety rules
  • Conduct daily toolbox talks, briefings and site inductions; ensure all operatives are competent and appropriately certified
  • Review and implement RAMS, ITPs and method statements; identify and escalate any deviations or non-conformances
  • Liaise directly with the client's site representative, project manager and commissioning teams
  • Monitor progress against programme; report daily on productivity, resource levels and any issues or delays
  • Ensure all materials, plant and equipment are on site, in good order and correctly deployed
  • Coordinate with commissioning engineers during testing and energisation phases
  • Maintain accurate site records, timesheets, inspection records and completion documentation
  • Drive a culture of quality and continuous improvement across the site team

Requirements

Essential

  • Proven experience as an M&E Supervisor on HV substation or power transmission projects
  • Previous work within National Grid framework – familiarity with NG standards, documentation and safe systems of work essential
  • Competent to hold and administer permits to work, LOAs and switching operations
  • Strong mechanical and electrical background – GIS/AIS substation experience highly desirable
  • CSCS card – minimum Supervisory level
  • SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) or SSSTS
  • First Aid at Work
  • Full UK driving licence – essential for multi-site travel across London and South East
  • Excellent communication skills – able to manage teams and interface confidently with client and principal contractor representatives
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics and technical documentation
  • Registered and trading as a Limited Company – IR35 status to be confirmed

Desirable

  • HV Authorised Person (AP) or Senior Authorised Person (SAP) – National Grid or DNO issued
  • IPAF 3a & 3b (MEWP operator)
  • CPCS Appointed Person or Slinger Signaller
  • Experience on GIS substation installation or upgrade projects
  • Familiarity with IEC 61850, protection relay testing or commissioning assistance
  • Experience with cable pulling, earthing systems, containment and steelwork
  • Previous experience on Tier 1 contractor frameworks
