Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for a Setting Out Engineer on a 6 Month Contract, based in Hampshire.

Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Setting Out Engineer to support ongoing works across SSE framework projects based in Hampshire. This role is offered on a 6-month rolling contract basis under CIS payment terms. The successful candidate will play a key role in the delivery of civil engineering and utilities infrastructure works, ensuring all setting out and surveying activities are carried out accurately, safely, and in accordance with project specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out setting out duties for civil engineering and utility infrastructure works.
  • Interpret technical drawings, specifications, and site information.
  • Establish site control points and carry out surveys.
  • Ensure works are delivered to the correct line and level tolerances.
  • Produce and maintain accurate site records, as-built information, and QA documentation.
  • Work closely with Site Managers, Engineers, and subcontractors to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Monitor and report progress, technical issues, and site constraints.
  • Ensure all works are completed in line with health & safety requirements and SSE standards.
  • Conduct site checks and quality inspections.
  • Support with permits, RAMS reviews, and technical queries where required.

Requirements

Essential

  • Previous experience working as a Setting Out Engineer on civil engineering, utilities, or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience working on SSE, National Grid, or similar utility frameworks preferred.
  • Proficient with Leica, Trimble, or similar surveying equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of QA processes and site documentation.
  • CSCS Card.
  • SMSTS or SSSTS preferred.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.

Desirable

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • Temporary Works awareness.
  • NRSWA or utility sector experience.
  • Experience with GPS and robotic total station equipment.
  • First Aid certification.
