We partner with brands across the food, food supplement, pharmaceutical, medical device, cosmetic, and general product sectors, helping them navigate complex regulatory landscapes and bring compliant products to market with confidence. As our international presence continues to grow, we are looking for a Regulatory Adviser (Food) to provide high-quality regulatory support to brands and retailers.
The Role
This position is part of Rubicon’s wider regulatory team, made up of specialists across both food and non-food sectors. Reporting to the Senior Regulatory Manager, you will contribute to the delivery of services for both existing and new clients. As our Regulatory Advisor (Food), you will assess product information across a wide variety of food categories to ensure compliance with applicable legislation, industry guidance, and brand-specific standards. Drawing on your regulatory knowledge, you will support and advise clients and internal teams to ensure due diligence obligations are met and regulatory decisions remain compliant. You will play an important role in delivering accurate, timely, and expert guidance that supports successful product development, launches, and international commercialization.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting product compliance assessments, including formulation reviews, pack copy checks, and artwork evaluations
- Providing commercially practical, risk-based regulatory guidance to clients and internal teams to ensure compliance with legal requirements
- Monitoring and researching regulatory changes and emerging industry trends that may affect clients or the wider business
- Providing advice to clients in line with changing legislation, guidance, and industry best practice
- Delivering risk-based recommendations in response to complaints, enforcement issues, or regulatory challenges
- Liaising with government authorities and industry organisations
- Delivering internal regulatory and technical training sessions
- Developing strong working relationships with client regulatory and technical contacts, communicating regulatory matters with confidence and clarity
- Participating in client meetings to provide expert regulatory advice and contribute to business development
- Creating technical and regulatory content for marketing, training, and internal knowledge-sharing purposes
- Presenting regulatory expertise both internally and externally
- Expanding technical expertise across specialist food categories and international markets
- Translating regulations using various language tools
Knowledge & Experience
- Degree in food law, food science, nutrition, or related discipline
- At least 3 years’ experience in a regulatory role within food industry or a related environment
- Familiarity with the UK & EU Food Information to Consumers (FIC) Regulation, Nutrition and Health Claims Regulation (NHCR), and country-of-origin labelling rules
- Awareness of the Novel Foods framework (GB and EU) and its application to product development and ingredient assessment
- Excellent written and spoken English (essential)
- Fluency in one or more EU or Nordic languages (desirable)
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and organise workload effectively
- Proven experience making sound, risk-based regulatory decisions
- Confidence interpreting and applying regulatory requirements to product information and communicating outcomes clearly to clients
- Strong food regulatory knowledge, including a good understanding of general EU and national level legislation
- Experience applying legislation, customer standards, and codes of practice to product information
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, tracking timelines and deliverables across concurrent client accounts
- Excellent communication and IT skills
- Ability to deliver presentations and written content to a professional standard
- Ability to explain complex regulatory concepts in a clear and accessible way
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a practical and proportionate approach to risk assessment
- Effective research and information analysis skills
- Commercial awareness and willingness to take on feedback and guidance
- Ability to remain resilient and effective under pressure and tight deadlines
- Proactive attitude towards learning and developing expertise in new areas as the business evolves
