The role

Key Responsibilities
- Preparation and maintenance of the Safety and Environmental Management Plan.
- Supporting Hazard Identification and Hazard Analyses.
- Supporting Environmental Impact Screening and Scoping.
- Developing Hazard Logs and Environmental Features Matrices.
- Preparation and maintenance of Safety and Environmental Cases.
- Developing artefacts to support the Safety and Environmental Case.
- Provision of safety and environmental input to project and design reviews.
- Provision of safety and environmental assurance, including auditing.
- Management of safety and environmental activities undertaken by other organisations including visits and inspections of training facilities.
- Provision of support to bid and proposal activities, including generation of estimates for safety and environmental aspects of the programme.
- Supporting and facilitating Safety and Environmental Committees.
- Any other duties required to meet the needs of the programme.

You won’t let bureaucracy get in the way of what needs to be done, you’ll learn lessons and share these lessons across the team. You won’t necessarily have a military background, but you’ll understand what it means to serve and to put the mission first.
The OMNIA Training Safety & Environmental Engineer will provide and deliver Safety & Environmental activities across the Army Collective Training Service (ACTS) deliverables. Reporting directly to the Service Delivery Manager, they will be instrumental in delivering the Safety & Environmental Management Plan and conducting and coordinating the safety and environmental activities in the design, delivery and in-service support of the British Army training solutions.
This role requires a systems-thinking mindset, strong stakeholder engagement skills, and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary engineering team in a complex and evolving environment. Given the programme’s focus on modelling and simulation, familiarity with relevant standards and technologies is highly desirable.
Essential Skills and Experience
- System safety and environmental experience within the defence domain.
- Experience of working with Def Stan 00-056, Def Stan 00-055, Def Stan 00-051 or other applicable standards.
- Strong understanding of systems engineering principles and processes.
- Track record in producing safety and environmental cases acceptable to the customer and/or regulator.
- Appreciation of safety standards and design/implementation techniques for safety.
- Good understanding of the engineering lifecycle.
- Commercial awareness.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Degree in Engineering, Physics, Computing or other relevant subject.
- Experience of training solutions, army training doctrine, platforms or installation of equipment at customer sites.
- Knowledge of defence or public sector engineering standards and regulatory frameworks.
- Experience in training transformation or learning platforms.
- SAFe and ITIL4 certified.
- Experience of working in an Agile/SCRUM/DevOps delivery model.
- Knowledge of the MOD’s GEAR framework.
- Security cleared or ability to obtain (SC or above).
