We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join us for a 12 Month Industrial Placement. As a Mechanical Engineer on Industrial Placement, you will be responsible for providing engineering support and working in a group primarily consisting of mechanical design engineers. You will participate in projects for the design of mechanical and opto-mechanical hardware to support visual display products with guidance from technical leads.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Creation of assembly drawings, detailed manufacturing drawings, bills of materials and technical documentation in accordance with company quality procedures.
- Update drawings and documentation from vendor and installation feedback.
- Review specifications and other data to develop preliminary mechanical layouts leading to detail design.
- Contribute to the development of new products as well as modify existing products or processes to increase efficiency or improve performance.
- Liaison with internal customers, equipment suppliers and subcontractors associated with programs.
- Contribute to internal design reviews and be prepared to present design.
Basic Qualifications:
- Studying for a degree (or equivalent qualification) in Mechanical Engineering.
- Able to multi-task and prioritise own work.
- Ability to build strong relationships and be a team player.
- A can do, find a way, attitude.
- Experience of delivering high quality work to a deadline.
- Creativity, initiative, diplomacy, self-motivation and self-confidence.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; specifically the use of Microsoft Excel to filter, clean, identify, analyse and interpret trends or patterns in data.
Preferred Experience:
- 3-D CAD experience using an industry recognised product. SolidWorks will be the software used for mechanical design and detailing.
- Familiarity with relevant components of BS8888 which are required to produce CAD drawings for manufacture.
- Understanding of material properties and manufacturing processes required for machined and fabricated parts.
