The Role
We are looking for a proactive, knowledgeable and detail-focused Data Compliance Manager to lead data compliance, information governance and audit readiness across RTN Mental Health. This is a key role in ensuring our use of data is safe, lawful, ethical and well-controlled. You will act as the organisation’s subject matter expert on data protection and information governance, helping embed practical frameworks that support strong governance without slowing down good care. Working with senior leadership, clinical teams, operations, digital colleagues and external partners, you will oversee compliance with the Data Security and Protection Toolkit, UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, Caldicott principles and wider information governance standards. You will also support information risk management, incident response, audits, policy development, training and system-related controls. This role would suit someone who can interpret regulatory requirements and turn them into clear, workable processes for a growing healthcare organisation.
Role Responsibilities
- Data Compliance & Information Governance
- Lead and maintain RTN Mental Health’s data compliance and information governance framework
- Own and manage compliance with the Data Security and Protection Toolkit
- Support compliance with UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and wider information governance standards
- Maintain oversight of relevant policies, procedures and governance documentation
- Support safe, lawful and appropriate use and sharing of information across the organisation
- Information Risk & Assurance
- Act as Senior Information Risk Owner, overseeing information risk and assurance activity
- Maintain oversight of relevant risk registers, controls and improvement actions
- Provide clear reporting to senior leadership and the Board on compliance, risks and progress
- Ensure appropriate escalation routes and governance processes are in place
- Audit Readiness & Monitoring
- Lead audit readiness, including preparation for internal and external audits
- Conduct compliance reviews, checks and assurance activity
- Identify gaps in processes, documentation, systems and controls
- Track actions from audits, incidents and reviews through to completion
- Data Protection, Incidents & Security
- Act as a key contact for data protection queries, breaches and information governance concerns
- Support the investigation and management of incidents, breaches and near misses
- Work with IT, digital and system colleagues to support secure access, appropriate controls and safe data handling
- Help strengthen good practice around access control, least privilege and secure information handling
- Training & Culture
- Design and deliver data compliance and information governance training
- Promote a culture of shared responsibility around data protection and information governance
- Provide practical guidance to managers and teams on compliance-related matters
- Translate complex requirements into clear, accessible advice
- System Ownership & Continuous Improvement
- Act as System Owner for core clinical and operational systems
- Ensure appropriate access controls, audit trails and monitoring processes are in place
- Work with suppliers and partners to support secure system use and integrations
- Identify opportunities to improve compliance processes, reporting, systems and controls
About You
Essential
- Experience in data compliance, information governance, governance or a similar role
- Strong knowledge of data protection and information governance requirements
- Experience working with frameworks such as DSPT, UK GDPR or data protection standards
- Experience supporting audits, compliance reviews or assurance activity
- Experience developing policies, procedures, reports or governance documentation
- Ability to interpret regulation and translate it into practical processes
- Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail
- Confident written and verbal communication skills
- Able to work independently and collaborate effectively with different teams
- Pragmatic, solutions-focused and confident holding standards
Desirable
- Experience in healthcare, mental health or another regulated environment
- Experience working with Caldicott principles or supporting a Caldicott Guardian
- Experience managing risk registers or governance reporting
- Knowledge of DSPT submission requirements
- Experience using compliance, audit tracking or governance systems
- Relevant qualification in data protection, compliance, information governance, risk, audit or information security
