We are seeking an experienced Section Engineer to join our team on a major highways and junction improvement project in Birmingham. The role will involve an initial 2-month night shift period carrying out trial holes, followed by approximately 6 months working on the ECI phase, before transitioning into the main construction works. This is an excellent opportunity to be involved in a complex infrastructure scheme from early contractor involvement through to delivery.
Role & Responsibilities:
- As Section Engineer, you will be responsible for the technical delivery and control of works on site, ensuring quality, safety, and programme targets are met.
- Setting out works in accordance with contract drawings, specifications, and site surveys.
- Maintaining dimensional control and ensuring tolerances are achieved without compromising quality or design intent.
- Reviewing construction outputs and planning efficient sequences of work.
- Liaising with project planners regarding construction programmes and supplier outputs.
- Checking materials and works in progress for compliance with specified requirements, in line with Sisk Q10.
- Adhering to all company safety requirements and the company Safety Statement/Policy.
- Contributing to Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and ensuring supply chain compliance with testing requirements.
- Raising RFIs and resolving technical issues with clients, designers, subcontractors, suppliers, and statutory authorities.
- Managing quality control and maintaining accurate site records in line with method statements, quality plans, and ITPs.
Qualifications & Training:
- Minimum 3 years' post‑qualification experience in civil engineering or a project‑based environment.
- Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
- Strong setting‑out and engineering control experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and professionally, influencing others including senior management.
- Working knowledge of Temporary Works (TWC capability advantageous).
- SMSTS or MSIC.
- First Aid at Work.
- Lifting Supervisor certification.
- Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) trained (or working towards).
- Chartered or working towards professional status with Engineers Ireland or ICE.
- Flood or water sector experience (desirable).
Competitive salary of £45,000 - £55,000.
