The predicted salary is between 36000 - 60000 Β£ per year.
We are seeking an experienced Freelance Planning Engineer to play a key role in the development, management, and reporting of project programmes. Working closely with key stakeholders, the successful candidate will support programme development, cost loading, subcontractor integration, and ongoing progress reporting, both internally and externally. Initially, the role will focus on working alongside the QS team to cost-load the existing programme of works. Once the programme is accepted, the role will transition to managing subcontractor programmes and ensuring accurate, timely updates are fully integrated into the overall project plan. The role requires a minimum of three days per week working from either the Manchester Office or the Trawsfynydd Site, with travel required between the two locations as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop work breakdown structures, quality criteria, product descriptions, and monitoring strategies.
- Capture, record, and challenge project assumptions to ensure programmes are realistic and achievable.
- Interface regularly with the project controls team to maintain alignment between financial position and the project plan.
- Support the Project Manager in identifying optimisation opportunities through resource smoothing, levelling, and rescheduling.
- Identify wider resource requirements to support successful project delivery.
- Ensure stakeholder requirements are understood and reflected in programme reporting.
- Provide expert advice on planning processes throughout the project lifecycle, supporting best practice and capability development in planning and reporting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Essential
- Trained and experienced in Primavera P6.
- Proven experience developing cost- and resource-loaded programmes.
- Strong understanding and application of Earned Value Analysis as a reporting tool.
- Proactive, challenging approach with the confidence to drive programme efficiencies and propose mitigations.
- High level of numeracy with excellent analytical capability.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable
- Experience or understanding of estimating, scheduling, programming, and risk tools.
- Background in Project Controls and/or Project Delivery, ideally within a highly regulated environment.
Qualifications
Essential
- Minimum GCSE (or equivalent) in Mathematics.
Desirable
- HNC/HND, degree qualification, or equivalent experience in a planning-related discipline.
- APMG International Project Planning and Control Practitioner (or equivalent).
- PMI Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP) certification.
