We are currently seeking experienced Mechanical Fitters to join a major substation project on a freelance basis. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a high-profile energy infrastructure project with competitive rates and long-term prospects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Installation, assembly, and maintenance of mechanical components within substations
  • Working on high-voltage equipment including switchgear and associated systems
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications
  • Carrying out inspections, testing, and fault finding
  • Ensuring all work is completed in line with health, safety, and quality standards

Essential Requirements:

  • Valid NG Persons certification (National Grid)
  • Proven experience working on substation or similar high-voltage projects
  • Relevant mechanical qualifications (e.g., NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering)
  • CSCS or ECS card
  • Strong understanding of site safety procedures and permit-to-work systems

Desirable Certifications:

  • National Grid BESC (Basic Electrical Safety Competence)
  • National Grid Competent Person / Authorised Person
  • IPAF / PASMA
  • Manual Handling
