We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to join a major SCL tunnelling scheme in Kent. This is a long‑term freelance opportunity on a technically demanding project, offered on an Outside IR35 basis for an 18‑month duration.
Key Responsibilities
- Setting out and engineering control for SCL tunnelling works
- Managing and supporting site engineers and junior staff
- Producing and reviewing RAMS, ITPs, and method statements
- Raising and managing RFIs, technical queries, and design clarifications
- Ensuring works are carried out in accordance with design, specifications, and programme
- Liaising with the Site Agent, Project Manager, client, and design team
- Coordinating with subcontractors and monitoring quality of works
- Maintaining accurate site records, as‑built information, and daily diaries
- Supporting progress reporting and short‑term planning
- Ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Senior Engineer on tunnelling or major civil engineering projects
- Strong understanding of SCL tunnelling methodologies and or trenchless work
- Competent with surveying equipment and engineering software
- Ability to lead engineers and manage technical aspects of the works
- Strong communication and problem‑solving skills
- CSCS (Gold or Black), SMSTS or SSSTS preferred
- Temporary Works Coordinator or Supervisor experience desirable
