1. Job Purpose: You will be responsible for supporting the production process by feeding machinery, handling, sorting and packaging timber products while ensuring high safety and quality standards. This role requires physical stamina, as it involves lifting and moving timber and will require working with machinery such as saws, planers and forklifts.
2. Key Responsibilities (Duties)
- Machine Operation & Support: Feed raw timber into saws, planers, and automated machinery; assist machine operators with setup, adjustments, and monitoring for jams.
- Material Handling & Sorting: Load, unload, stack, and sort timber products according to size, grade, and customer specifications.
- Quality Control: Inspect timber for defects (e.g., knots, bad edges, stains) and measure products using tape measures or calipers to ensure they meet specifications.
- Maintenance & Housekeeping: Perform routine, operator-led machine maintenance (cleaning, oiling) and maintain a clean, safe, and hazard-free work area.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to strict health and safety procedures, including the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Documentation: Complete basic production paperwork, such as pre-use inspection checklists and tally sheets.
- Flexibility: Undertake other duties as assigned by management to meet operational demands.
3. Person Specification
Essential Criteria:
- Physical Fitness: Capable of manual handling and working on your feet for long periods.
- Health & Safety Focus: Strong commitment to, and understanding of, site safety standards.
- Communication: Effective verbal and written English skills for instructions and reporting.
- Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and communicate with customers/public.
- Reliability: Good timekeeping and attendance record.
Desirable Criteria:
- Certifications: Valid forklift Licence.
4. Working Conditions
Hours: 7am- 4pm Monday- Friday
Safety Requirements: Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times which will be provided by the company.
