OverviewJoin to apply for the Material Sciences Industrial Placement 2026 - 2027 (RSSL, Reading) role at RSSL.RSSL (Reading Scientific Services Limited) is a multi-award-winning food and pharmaceutical research organization. We deliver rigorous analytical testing, cutting-edge research and development, customised consultancy, and training services to clients across 70 countries.Our industrial placements are 13 months long. We aim to make you an integral part of the team and to support your personal and professional development.ResponsibilitiesBe responsible and accountable for your projects from start to finish.Plan and execute experiments related to your projects.Produce technical reports and presentations; communicate key findings to stakeholders.Perform a wide range of analyses as part of a team or independently on products from the food, pharmaceutical and healthcare industries, and on Mondelez projects where applicable.Develop expertise in analytical methods and operation of laboratory equipment (e.g., Karl Fischer, Malvern Mastersizer, mechanical sieving, texture analyzers, microscopy techniques including light microscopy, FT-IR, RAMAN, SEM, X-ray microanalysis, micro fluorescence).Interact with other departments within RSSL and support ongoing project activities outside of your immediate team where required.Work with your university supervisor to identify a project that meets degree requirements when applicable.Candidate RequirementsStudying towards a suitable scientific degree (Chemistry-related or Materials Science as listed).2:1 predicted final degree grade (or equivalent).Self-motivated, driven, and passionate about technical excellence.Ability to work autonomously and within a team.Strong analytical, communication, and presentation abilities.Pro-active and willing to take on new responsibilities.Able to build strong working relationships.Good working knowledge of MS Office.Able to travel if required.Benefits and Additional InformationIn return for your commitment, RSSL offers a competitive salary and a benefits package within a thriving international business, including 35 days annual leave (including bank holidays), contributory pension, life assurance, and a flexible benefits programme.The assessment center will take place on 3 December 2025 at our Reading site.
