Overview
RSSL (Reading Scientific Services Limited) is a multi-award-winning food and pharmaceutical research organisation. We provide analytical testing, research and development, customised consultancy and training services to clients across 70 countries. This 13-month industrial placement offers an opportunity to be an integral part of the Food Sciences team, contributing to projects from start to finish and developing both personal and professional skills.
Responsibilities
- Plan and execute experiments related to your projects.
- Produce technical reports and presentations; communicate key findings to stakeholders.
- Work as part of a team and independently on routine and investigative analyses.
- Assist in the development of new, bespoke analytical methods where appropriate.
- Interact with other RSSL departments and support ongoing project activities as required.
- Ensure projects align with university degree requirements in collaboration with your supervisor.
Qualifications and Essential Candidate Requirements
- Studying towards a suitable scientific degree: Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Forensic Chemistry or Pharmaceutical Chemistry; Chemical Engineering; Biochemistry; Biological Sciences; Food Sciences; Natural Sciences; Physics; or Materials Science.
- 2:1 degree (predicted) or equivalent.
- Self-motivated, driven and naturally inquisitive with a passion for technical excellence.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
- Strong analytical, communication and presentation abilities.
- Pro-active and willing to take on new responsibilities.
- Able to build strong working relationships.
- Good working knowledge of MS Office.
- Able to travel if required.

Please note the role may involve handling materials that contain chemicals, solvents and allergens; appropriate protective wear will be provided.
Benefits and Employment Details
We offer an attractive benefits package within a successful international business, including a competitive salary, 35 days annual leave (including bank holidays), contributory pension, life assurance, and a flexible benefits programme. The position does not meet the minimum salary requirements for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship. Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK. The assessment center is scheduled for 3 December 2025 at the Reading site.
