We are currently looking for a Civils Works Manager for an important Civils client of ours based in Hinckley, Leicestershire.
The Works Manager will oversee operations, coordinate resources, ensure safety and quality compliance, and lead teams to achieve project or plant objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Project and Operations Management: Oversee daily activities on construction sites, manufacturing plants, or municipal works to ensure projects meet timelines, budgets, and quality standards
- Team Leadership: Lead and supervise staff, subcontractors, and suppliers, ensuring productivity, compliance, and effective communication
- Resource Allocation: Manage labour, equipment, and materials efficiently to optimise workflow and operational efficiency
- Health and Safety Compliance: Implement and monitor safety protocols, ensuring a secure work environment and adherence to industry regulations
- Quality Assurance: Maintain high standards of work quality, monitor project progress, and enforce compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements
- Strategic Planning: Develop production schedules, project plans, and operational strategies to meet organisational goals
- Problem Solving: Address on-site challenges, resolve conflicts, and ensure smooth operations across all departments or project areas
- Works Managers may also be responsible for budget management, logistics coordination, and continuous improvement initiatives in production or operational processes
- In municipal or public works contexts, the role may include oversight of infrastructure maintenance, waste management, and community service projects
This role is critical for ensuring that projects or operations run efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all standards, while providing leadership and guidance to teams across multiple functions.
Essential Requirements
- Highways & Civils Experience: Strong, practical track record working as a Works Manager, General Foreman, or Senior General Foreman on UK highways or local authority road projects.
- Hands-On Leadership: Proven ability to manage direct workforces and subcontractors efficiently on live, fast-paced civil engineering schemes.
- Site Ready & Qualified: Must hold a valid CSCS card, SMSTS, and First Aid at Work (NRSWA / Streetworks qualifications are highly desirable).
- Location & Mobility: Based in or commutable to Hinckley, Leicestershire area with a full UK driving licence to cover regional site operations.
