Overview
RSPCA Birmingham, United Kingdom is seeking a Veterinary Care Assistant (VCA) to join the Veterinary team at the Birmingham Animal Hospital (Newbrook). The role reports into one of the Nursing Team Leaders.
Responsibilities
- Undertaking nursing duties including patient care, theatre practice, assisting with consultations and general reception duties as directed.
- General cleaning duties throughout the hospital including equipment, animal quarters and premises.
- Maintaining up to date and accurate clinical records for every animal that comes into the hospital.
- Dispensing drugs in accordance with professional guidelines and hospital rules.
Qualifications
- Previous experience of veterinary care work.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to demonstrate teamwork with veterinary animal centre and Inspectorate colleagues.
- Self-motivation and an ability to manage your own time.
- An NVQ Level 2 in Animal Care or equivalent (e.g. VCA, ANA) is desirable.
Employment details
- Working hours: 35 hours per week, on a shift basis including weekends over a 10 week rolling rota.
- Day shifts: 8:00am – 3:30pm.
- Evening shifts: 2:30pm – 10:00pm.
- Nights: 10:00pm – 8:00am.
- Site: Based at the Animal Hospital in Newbrook.
- 4% shift allowance in addition to the wage range; Night shift allowance (0.33% of supplement for night shifts).
