Overview

RSPCA Birmingham, United Kingdom is seeking a Veterinary Care Assistant (VCA) to join the Veterinary team at the Birmingham Animal Hospital (Newbrook). The role reports into one of the Nursing Team Leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Undertaking nursing duties including patient care, theatre practice, assisting with consultations and general reception duties as directed.
  • General cleaning duties throughout the hospital including equipment, animal quarters and premises.
  • Maintaining up to date and accurate clinical records for every animal that comes into the hospital.
  • Dispensing drugs in accordance with professional guidelines and hospital rules.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience of veterinary care work.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to demonstrate teamwork with veterinary animal centre and Inspectorate colleagues.
  • Self-motivation and an ability to manage your own time.
  • An NVQ Level 2 in Animal Care or equivalent (e.g. VCA, ANA) is desirable.

Employment details

  • Working hours: 35 hours per week, on a shift basis including weekends over a 10 week rolling rota.
  • Day shifts: 8:00am – 3:30pm.
  • Evening shifts: 2:30pm – 10:00pm.
  • Nights: 10:00pm – 8:00am.
  • Site: Based at the Animal Hospital in Newbrook.
  • 4% shift allowance in addition to the wage range; Night shift allowance (0.33% of supplement for night shifts).
