We have a fantastic opportunity for a Rehoming Coordinator to join the small but friendly team at Friern Barnet on a 12-month FTC. Based in Pets at Home Friern Barnet, the Adoption Centre supports our frontline inspectorate by providing care, rehabilitation and rehoming to over a hundred cats per year. These cats come to the centre via our hospital and local animal centres. The adoption centre team manage and oversee an expanding fostering network for the cats in our care providing the very best welfare whilst those cats recover from cruelty and neglect.

Working hours are 35 per week on a variable rota basis, including weekends and bank holidays. Site based at Pets at Home Friern Barnet with some travel in one of our fleet vehicles. (Please note - As all our vehicles are manual, a full and valid UK manual driving licence with proven driving experience is a must-have for this role).

As a Rehoming Coordinator, you'll be providing a safe space for cats in the centre, tending to all their needs, and working closely with both adopters and fosterers. This includes conducting checks and carefully selecting the most suitable home for each cat based on their individual needs. This role also includes a lot of lone working, which involves travel and visiting fosterers, hospitals, and other centres. Plus, you'll be handling essential administration to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Other duties include:

  • Providing care for the animals housed in the RSPCA rehoming unit;
  • Engaging with the public by answering phone calls and in-person queries;
  • Promote RSPCA animals available for adoption both in-store and on social media;
  • Coordinate and manage fostering networks;
  • Facilitating animal veterinary care, including transport to and from the veterinary hospital.

Requirements:

  • A full and valid manual UK driving licence;
  • Willingness to travel and embrace a flexible work schedule;
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a pragmatic approach to challenges;
  • Previous experience with working with domestic animals whilst volunteering, studying or working;
  • Compassion, with a positive can-do outlook with excellent communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently, managing tasks within established guidelines;
  • Confidence to conduct home visits and engage with the public in their own environment;
  • Adept at handling sensitive and difficult conversations with empathy and professionalism.

Successful candidates for certain RSPCA roles will need to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK - We are unable to sponsor visas at RSPCA.
