The RSPCA is undergoing a bold and exciting transformation. At the heart of this journey is a commitment to becoming outward-looking, digitally enabled, and future-ready. To help drive this evolution, we are creating a pivotal new role: Chief Technology Officer (CTO). This is a rare opportunity to shape and lead a modern, resilient technology function that directly supports animal welfare across England and Wales. As we move toward our Strategy 2030 goals - ending animal cruelty and building a millions-strong movement for animals - we need a technology backbone that is as resilient as it is innovative.

The Role

As CTO, you will shape and deliver our technology vision, ensuring we have the right platforms, architecture, and partnerships in place to support innovation at scale. Reporting to the CFO and serving as a key member of the senior leadership team, you will be accountable for the RSPCA’s entire technology backbone. This role goes beyond technology. We are looking for a leader who can bring people with them - someone who can guide teams through cultural change while delivering cost-effective, high-impact outcomes. Working in close partnership with our incoming Chief Digital Officer (CDO), you will co‑create a truly modern, progressive organisation. Together, you will challenge convention, break down silos, and build a culture defined by collaboration, inclusion, and excellence.

What You’ll Lead

  • Strategy & Architecture: Define a multi-year technology vision and own enterprise architecture to ensure platforms are scalable, integrated, and sustainable.
  • Operational Excellence & Risk: Serve as the final authority on live IT service readiness, resilience, and operational risk.
  • Data & AI Innovation: Harness data for organisational insight and work with the CDO to implement a responsible, impactful AI strategy.
  • Commercial Leadership: Lead strategic supplier negotiations and manage a technology budget, securing high-value agreements that accelerate our ambitions.
  • People‑Focused Leadership: Lead a multidisciplinary technology team (c.4–6 direct reports) and act as a trusted advisor to the Executive Team and Board of Trustees.

Why This Role Matters

Technology at the RSPCA isn't just about systems – it underpins how effectively we protect animals, support our inspectors, and deliver change. We want to be ground‑breaking, and we need a CTO who can think beyond traditional structures and lead by example as an inclusive leader. If you are ready to shape the future and make a meaningful impact, we’d love to see your application. Ready to help us build a future where every animal is respected and protected? Apply today.
