Much of our direct animal welfare work is carried out through our branches. These separately registered charities across England and Wales are run by volunteers who are unstinting in their work for animal welfare.

This volunteer opportunity is provided by an RSPCA branch, which is a separate registered charity to the RSPCA National Society. You\’ll be supporting the vital work of the RSPCA by collecting and distributing donations to our charity shops. Other tasks may include: Collecting donations from customers\’ homes, taking rubbish to the tip or moving stock and equipment between the shops. This may involve lifting items of various sizes and weight but appropriate training will be provided if required.

Our volunteer drivers get to meet lots of different people including members of the public, RSPCA staff and volunteers, and also other animal care professionals in their local area. You’ll also get a buzz by knowing your actions are helping animals.

You\’ll be driving our vehicle and helping our four shops, located in York, Acomb, Malton, and Selby.

Our Branch volunteer drivers support the vital work of our branches transporting animals to and from vets, private boarding establishments and hospitals as required and/or transporting retail stock or equipment for the branch

What you will be doing

  • Ensuring that RSPCA rules and regulations are complied with
  • Carrying out a small amount of administrative work, such as completing mileage returns
  • Undertaking appropriate training as directed by the branch team
  • Depending on the role, transporting animals and/or materials/stock/equipment on behalf of the branch

The skills you need

  • Drivers must have a valid driving licence (we will need to complete some checks before you can start)
  • Undertake manual handling training (and animal handling training if required)
  • Volunteers must be aged 18 or over
