Introduction

The Senior Fundraising Officer role is a key position within the Fundraising Team in Wales with the main aim to secure income from Grants, Trusts & Foundations and Corporates. The Senior Fundraising Officer will work against annual targets to achieve the RSPB’s goals, playing a key role in building financial support for nature.

What’s the role about?

The Senior Fundraising Officer will be expected to:

  • Identify, develop and deliver fundraising projects and match these to agreed priority areas to maximise income.
  • Lead on the development of funding plans for priority work as allocated.
  • Contribute to the implementation of an agreed fundraising opportunity and lead on large funding bids across one or more income streams.
  • Scope, develop and manage funding relationships and multi‑stakeholder bids to optimise opportunities and ensure successful funding arrangements.
  • Identify the requirements of our funders, including analysis of potential risk and communications requirements to ensure effective dialogue and delivery of any funding and compliance conditions.
  • Provide forecasts for budgeting and make recommendations for change in order to provide accurate financial information for RSPB leadership.
  • Update and utilise contact databases to ensure accurate records are kept to facilitate effective contact management across the organisation.
  • Ensure funders and donors have an excellent supporter experience and increase their understanding and awareness of RSPB vision and work.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Understanding of fundraising and donor/supporter motivations and how to build cases for support.
  • Able to articulate understanding of GDPR and data protection relating to funder/supporter information and how to use a fundraising database such as Raisers Edge, Care or Salesforce.
  • Solutions‑focused approach, with the ability to overcome setbacks in order to get the right outcome for the RSPB.
  • Proven excellent writing and presentation skills.
  • Budget management.
  • Able to interpret complex information and communicate it simply to target audiences.
  • Able to deliver a high level of customer service to a variety of audiences.
  • Persuasive communicator and negotiator with the ability to influence.
  • Able to work under own initiative, with the confidence to ask for support and direction where needed.
  • Proven experience in fundraising, sales, project management and delivering to income targets and proven experience of relationship development in an outward‑facing role in the not‑for‑profit or private sector.

Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Experience working in the environmental sector
  • A passion for nature
