Do you have the passion and skills to tackle some of the biggest challenges facing nature and climate? Many of these challenges are complex and long-term, and our systems change campaigning function works with colleagues across the RSPB to tackle them head on.

This role will initially lead a new campaign to drive systemic change that generates public and political support for the UK’s most important areas for nature, but may lead other systems change campaigns in future years.

In this role, key activities will include:

  • Co-creating and leading long-term system change campaigns on behalf of the RSPB, working collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation.
  • Facilitating the development of shared objectives and effective decision-making through strong key senior internal and external relationships, amongst other pressing priorities.
  • Driving the roll out of systems change campaigns in all four countries of the UK.
  • Recruiting and line managing professional volunteers to provide expert guidance or deliver campaigns.
  • Maintaining technical expertise and analysis of external context relating to the current campaign and challenges facing nature, and up to date best practice in campaigning.
  • Ensuring compliance with legal, Charity Commission, and internal policy on campaigning standards.

What we need from you:

  • A passion for nature, to tackle the challenges facing it, and for campaigning!
  • Relevant experience to effectively deliver the responsibilities and tasks of this role, including demonstrable senior-level campaigning experience.
  • Ability not only see the big picture and understand and work to change complex systems affecting nature - but to galvanise others behind a shared commitment to what needs to happen.
  • Ability to direct where, when and how to apply campaigning pressure for maximum impact, and experience of a variety of creative offline and online campaign approaches.
  • Ability to drive forward work in a complex, large organization and through a four-country operating model, including excellent organisational skills and confidence in navigating multi-disciplinary discussions.
  • Excellent time management skills to focus own time on the highest priorities.

This is a Permanent Full-Time role for 37.5 hours per week. This role is a flexible role with the option of working 'hybrid' at one of our offices as well as from home.

We are committed to developing an inclusive and diverse RSPB, in which everyone feels supported, valued, and able to be their full selves. To achieve our vision of creating a world richer in nature, we need more people, and more diverse people, on nature’s side. People of colour and disabled people are currently underrepresented across the environment, climate, sustainability, and conservation sector. If you identify as a person of colour and/or disabled, we are particularly interested in receiving your application.

The RSPB is an equal opportunities employer. This role is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. This role is not eligible for UK Visa Sponsorship - the successful applicant will need to have a pre-existing Right to Work in the UK in order to be offered an employment contract.
