The Role
We’re seeking a confident and capable environmental professional with deep permitting expertise who is:
- Experienced in EPR applications and variations, from bespoke installations to discharge and flood risk activity permits.
- Comfortable leading conversationswith regulators, clients, and internal teams alike, translating policy into practice.
- Ready to mentor and managejunior consultants, driving team performance and professional growth.
- Eager to support strategic development, improve delivery systems, and shape our environmental permitting offering.
Geographic Scope
This is a hybrid role, open to candidates across the UK, with ad hoc travel to Manchester or Leeds or Birminghamto collaborate with colleagues and clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Permitting Delivery:Take ownership of complex environmental permit applications and variations, ensuring regulatory compliance and technical excellence.
- Client & Regulator Liaison:Serve as the key point of contact for stakeholders—guiding clients through permitting pathways and engaging effectively with regulators such as the EA, NRW, SEPA, and Local Authorities.
- Technical Assurance:Oversee quality across deliverables, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and commercial value.
- Team Leadership:Support junior consultants with mentoring, workload management, and performance monitoring.
- Team Collaboration: Manage and Collaborate multi-disciplinary teams across the RSK Group.
- Business Growth:Contribute to proposal writing, service development, and expanding our permitting portfolio.
- Regulatory Insight:Stay ahead of legislative changes, advising both clients and internal teams on evolving requirements.
What You Bring
- Strong track record preparing and managing EPR applications across multiple sectors.
- In-depth understanding of UK environmental permitting legislation and frameworks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence presenting complex information to varied audiences.
- Proven leadership experience, either formally or through mentoring and project oversight.
- Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
- Bonus Points:Chartered status (or working toward it), experience in EIA or compliance-related disciplines, and a background in project or programme management.
