The Vacancy

RSK Ireland Ltd are seeking to recruit an experienced full time Geoscientist currently working at Consultant level to work in our Belfast office on a hybrid basis.

This opportunity is for a motivated and ambitious person with good interpersonal skills seeking to advance their career.

The Geosciences team within RSK Group is one of the UK and Ireland’s largest geotechnical and contaminated land consultancies with ambitious plans for growth.

The Geosciences team provides consultancy and design services to both public and private sector organisations for a diverse range of projects including commercial and residential developments, infrastructure, utilities, transport, renewable energy, petrochemical and fuel retail companies.

Responsibilities

  • Drafting of technical reports in support of planning applications.
  • Supervising & managing intrusive site investigations for environmental purposes.
  • Groundwater and ground gas monitoring to relevant standards.
  • Undertaking Preliminary Risk Assessments / Preliminary Site Assessments (Phase 1 Desk Studies).
  • Drafting of Generic Quantitative Risk Assessments.
  • Supporting and co-ordinating a variety of projects.
  • Preparing health and safety documentation, booking subcontractors and scheduling soil and water samples for analytical testing.
  • Maintain and develop technical capability through Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Person Specification

  • BSc degree level qualified in Geology or a related Environmental subject.
  • A minimum of 2 years of previous experience.
  • A good understanding of laboratory testing and interpreting analysis results.
  • Knowledge of contaminated land, waste and planning legislation in UK / Ireland.
  • Practical experience in designing, supervising and managing environmental site investigations, involving a variety of techniques such as rotary, dynamic/window sampling, trial pitting etc.
  • A good understanding of environmental guidance and legislation.
  • Demonstratable experience in budgeting and managing costs on projects.
  • QGIS, ARCgis, CAD or similar data management/software knowledge is a significant advantage.
  • Candidates must be willing to spend a significant amount of their working day out on site and away from home.
  • Full driving licence and access to a car.
