About the Role:
In partnership with Atlantic Technological University (ATU), Nicholas O'Dwyer is hiring a Civil Engineering Apprentice as part of the Civil Engineering Apprenticeship Programme. As an apprentice, you will participate in a blended learning model that combines academic instruction with real project experience, helping you to develop into a Qualified Engineer. Your on-the-job training will include a structured mentorship programme, job shadowing, and diverse project involvement.
Key activities will include:
- Collaborating with a team of engineers on project discussions and supporting project delivery.
- Gaining insight into business projects, team collaboration, and project task completion.
- Learning to prepare materials for reports, designs, drawings, and specifications under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Understanding the importance of project communication and how to address challenges to keep projects on track.
- Developing problem-solving skills and applying these methods to generate ideas and solutions.
- Enhancing scheduling and time management skills to meet tight deadlines.
- Contributing to a culture of continuous improvement across all aspects of the working environment.
Core role requirements:
- Minimum of five O6/H7 grades in Leaving Certificate subjects.
- Satisfactory Maths requirement: H7 in Higher Level Mathematics or O6 in Ordinary Level Mathematics or F2 in Foundation Mathematics.
- For FETAC graduates: Full cognate FETAC (Level 5) award or higher with distinction grades in at least three components.
- Career changers are also welcome to apply.
Programme Details
A 3-year programme leading to a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering (Level 7). An earlier qualification of a Higher Certificate in Civil Engineering (Level 6) is achieved after 2 years. One academic day per week during the academic year. Four days per week of on-site learning and skill application. Supported by an industry mentor through on-the-job training, including maintaining an Apprentice Workplace Logbook, case studies, technical projects, HR performance reviews, and continuous learning assignments. Off-the-job learning includes one week of residential project-based learning, online lectures one full day per week, and campus attendance one day per month for labs/workshops. The programme culminates in the educational base for professional registration with Engineers Ireland at either Technician or Associate Engineer level.
