The Vacancy
Binnies is recruiting Water Quality Consultants to join our growing multi-disciplinary Environmental Services team. We are a world leader in Environmental and Critical Human Infrastructure projects within the Water and Flood Risk Management sector, delivering exciting projects for clients including the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales, Local Authorities, and Water Utility Companies. Our team also works on large infrastructure projects across sectors such as transport and renewable power. Our Catchment Management and Natural Capital teams utilize a full range of modelling tools to evaluate catchment interventions and their impacts on water resources and quality, including the benefits they provide.
This role will support our expanding water and catchment work, focusing on developing innovative catchment management approaches and solutions that leverage nature-based infrastructure, such as blue-green infrastructure, for the water industry.
We offer flexible working arrangements and welcome candidates from across the UK, with main office locations in Redhill, Bradford on Avon, Swansea, Birmingham, or Chester. Our team is close-knit, with active Communities of Practice in Environmental sectors, including Water and Catchments. About the Role
- Providing technical support for catchment management and water quality projects, including water quality modelling
- Producing Water Framework Directive Compliance Assessments
- Contributing to Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP) projects, including data analysis
- Designing and coordinating water monitoring programs in line with best practices
- Supporting river restoration, constructed wetlands, and flood risk management projects
- Advising on water environment implications of engineering designs and developing mitigation strategies
- Assisting in catchment management planning and impact assessments
- Engaging with project teams, clients, stakeholders, and the public
- Mentoring junior staff members
Qualifications/Requirements
- Degree in an environmental-related field
- Understanding of UK water management legislation
- Experience with water quality modelling tools (e.g., SIMCAT, SAGIS) is preferred
- Knowledge of relevant UK legislation
- Ability to manage workload and work effectively within a team
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Full UK driving licence
