Binnies is recruiting experienced Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) professionals to support our growing portfolio of projects across Wales. Our Welsh workload is primarily delivered through framework appointments with Natural Resources Wales and Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water (DCWW). This includes a diverse range of schemes, from new infrastructure requiring statutory EIA through to river restoration and other nature-based solutions projects.

You will work as part of multi-disciplinary project teams, supporting projects from early option appraisal through to on-site delivery, collaborating closely with engineers and environmental specialists. The role can be full-time office based (Swansea or Chester) or hybrid, with remote working also available.

You will join Binnies' national environmental team, a well-established and supportive group of professionals spanning disciplines including EIA, landscape, ecology, and water environment. While projects in Wales will be your primary focus, there will also be opportunities to contribute to projects across our national portfolio.

You will typically already be chartered, or close to achieving chartership, and we would be pleased to support your continued professional development, including further accreditation such as ISEP Registered EIA Practitioner. Binnies holds the ISEP EIA Quality Mark, reflecting our commitment to high standards in EIA delivery, and is proud to be a sponsor of the Association of Environmental Clerk of Works (AECoW).

About the Role

The role will include:

  • Co-ordinating all stages of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and the range of other environmental assessments and consents such as WFD, HRA, and planning.
  • Provide the checker, reviewer and/or approver role for environmental deliverables; driving technical quality.
  • Providing line management and/or mentoring to members of the Environmental Team.
  • Liaison with clients and other stakeholders.
  • Supporting tenders.
  • Supporting recruitment.

The role is suitable for an Environmental professional with full professional membership (such as ISEP, IES or CIWEM). In addition, should possess and be able to demonstrate the following qualifications, skills and knowledge:

  • An environmental related degree
  • Chartered with a relevant institute (or close to obtaining)
  • A strong understanding of EIA, sustainability and consenting processes (including planning, HRA and WFD), with particular experience of the Welsh regulatory framework
  • Understanding of Net Benefit for Biodiversity (NBB)
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Understanding of commercial drivers of consultancy and ability to manage and work to programme and budget
  • Hold a full UK driving licence
  • Previous consultancy experience.

The following skills would be an advantage but not essential:

  • Welsh speaker
  • Experience of construction stage delivery.

Previous project/commercial management is not required for this role as we have dedicated Project Managers to allow a technical focus on projects.
