This is an excellent entry-level opportunity to experience and learn the fundamentals of structural engineering under the guidance of experienced senior professionals within a leading National integrated environmental, engineering and technical services business, that provides multidisciplinary services to a wide range of sectors.
We are looking for our Structural Engineer Apprentice to be a fundamental part of the future growth of our business.
Wage: £4.81 for 16 - 17 year olds, £6.83 for 18 - 20 year olds, £9.18 for 21-22 years and over.
Training course: Civil engineering senior technician Level 4 Apprenticeship
Hours: 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday 8am – 4.30pm
Duration: 2 years
The role will predominately be office/desk, computer based with breaks throughout the day. There will be opportunities to attend sites with senior engineers to gain experience and help successfully complete your apprenticeship. As an apprentice, you’ll work at our Wigan office, and travel to sites across the UK and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff within dedicated Structural, Civils and Hydrology teams.
What you’ll do at work: The role offers the opportunity to assist senior structural engineers with design work, technical drafting, site inspections and other administrative tasks whilst gaining valuable practical experience and enabling the building of a strong foundation within the industry. The candidate will also experience working alongside/in conjunction with other disciplines within the RSK LDE Wigan office i.e. civil engineers and hydrological engineers.

Training: An apprenticeship includes 1 day a week at Bolton College. Your training plan: At the end of this Apprenticeship you will have completed and achieved a HNC awarded by Bolton College. The Structural Engineer Apprenticeship will include valuable practical experience to support your learning. Teaching will take place 1 day a week on campus at Bolton College, Deane Road, Bolton, BL3 5BG.
Requirements: Minimum 5 GCSEs grade C or above or grade 4 to 9 – including Maths and English.

Apprentices will need to be flexible to accommodate the needs of the business and training and will need to live locally to travel to and from Wigan office/Bolton college via public transport and/or hold a valid driving license and access to a car.

After this apprenticeship: Successful apprentices will gain a HNC in Civil Engineering. All promotions and salary increases are based on merit and not time served, therefore the candidate would be rewarded for any positive efforts and contributions accordingly. RSK utilise a personal development approach on a yearly basis (sometimes 6 months) to review and discuss the candidates progression the previous year and to discuss and set targets for the forthcoming months, so targets and goals are always reviewed and provided for the individual.
