Job Description

The Vacancy

Vacancy: Pipeline Engineer

Preferred Location: Redhill, Bradford-On-Avon, Bristol and Central London

Binnies, an RSK Group company, is looking for talented Pipeline Engineers to work within our Water Services team on a broad range of exciting water and wastewater pipeline projects for major water utility clients.

We have opportunities for candidates at all levels through to very experienced professionals looking for more challenging roles involving supervision of multi-discipline teams of engineers on multiple and/or large projects. If this describes you, we will make sure that you have opportunities to develop your skills and experience and progress your career further.

As a Pipeline Engineer you will be working in teams delivering a varied and challenging portfolio of work for clients including Anglian, Southern, Severn Trent and Thames. The variety of work ranges from strategic studies and large feasibility exercises (including developing proposals based around securing water resources for the 21st century – such as Thames Water's £3.5 billion SESRO project), to study and design work for programmes of water and wastewater network infrastructure improvements of varying type, scale and complexity. You will have the opportunity to use your experience working on projects from concept, through to outline design, detailed design and construction.

Whilst we have offices in most regions of the country, we are also supportive of flexible and hybrid working. As such we would be interested in receiving applications from candidates local to offices in Redhill, Bradford on Avon, Bristol and central London but we will also consider applications from other locations around the UK.

Binnies treats each professional as an individual and will provide all relevant training, development and support so that you may further your engineering career. We are a diverse and energetic team, and you will play a key role in contributing to our team's continuing growth and success.

About the Role

Typically, you will organise and/or undertake civil engineering activities within multi-disciplinary teams, whilst potentially supporting and mentoring more junior engineers. The role involves responsibility for:

  • undertaking strategic studies, feasibility work, outline and detailed designs for a wide variety of water utilities projects including water and wastewater treatment, conveyance and reservoir dam safety,
  • producing calculations and reports to support those designs,
  • working directly with clients to understand their needs and develop solutions to their problems,
  • producing business cases and proposals to enable our clients to fund their projects,
  • working with our construction partners to improve safety of designs and understand and improve the construction process,
  • ensuring our designs take account of buildability, sustainability, H&S and environmental requirements.

About You

  • You may be at the relatively early stages of your career, new to the industry, or approaching or at Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with the Institution of Civil Engineers or another relevant institution. We may consider candidates without this designation if they have suitable experience and can demonstrate a track record of carrying out work at a similar level.
  • Previous experience in the water sector is not essential, we would look for technical skills transferrable to a civil engineering role in the water sector.
  • Desire to support and mentor more junior engineers towards achieving Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (dependent on level of candidate).
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Self-motivated and effective team player.
  • A drive to deliver sustainable solutions in the water and environment industries.

Benefits

  • Competitive Salary.
  • Flexible working, including, if desired, a mixture of office and remote working, nine-day fortnights or other full time or part time working arrangements.
  • Pension.
  • Private Medical Healthcare.
  • Life Assurance.
  • Season Travel Ticket Loan.
  • Group Income Protection.
