MSS Water Ltd and the RSK Group are recruiting for an Acid Attendant to join our team based on our Customers site at Llanwern, Newport, UK. This is a full time, permanent position. The MSS Group is a specialist provider of facilities, industrial and environmental services with expertise in hazardous, highly regulated and complex environments.
The Role: Overall responsibility for carrying out a range of operational tasks associated with acid bath sampling, monitoring and testing of the effluent neutralisation plant, and monitoring and testing treated water discharged to drain. All tasks must be carried out in the most compliant, safe, efficient and effective manner possible.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake numerous operational tasks to enable the effluent plant and pickle line to run as effectively and efficiently as possible.
- Monitoring and replacing acid inhibitor
- Draining and filling pickle line tanks and rinse tanks
- Manually starting and stopping steam lines
- Receiving acid and lime deliveries
- Monitoring and draining of sumps and bunds
- Sampling acid baths
- Transferring ferrous chloride solution and cleaning associated filters
- Monitoring transfer tank pumps
- Checking neutralisation tanks
- Manually dosing lime
- Checking and changing air supply to neutralisation tanks
- Checking final transfer tank pumps
- Titrating pickle line bath samples
- Lime plant troubleshooting
- Flushing lime recirculation pipework and switching lime supply
- Filling, checking and maintaining polymer systems
- Checking clarifiers and filtrate holding tanks
- Transferring sludge, monitoring holding tanks and operating filter press cycles
- Sampling and analysing effluent plant performance
- Flushing sludge transfer pipework and pumps
- Sampling and performing moisture content tests on filter cake
- Calibrating pH meters and digital burettes
- Cleaning, monitoring and sampling turbidity and final water meters
- Inspecting pickle lines
- Dealing with chemical spills
- Carrying out safety and housekeeping audits
- Adhering to Job Method Statements and set procedures at all times
Qualifications and experience required:
- Previous experience in a similar role
- Demonstrated competence through training records and experience
- Ability to work alone while adhering to strict quality control systems and operational procedures
- Ability to work as part of a team when required
- Proficiency in basic IT applications including MS Word and Excel
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Hold CCNSG (training can be provided if required)
Salary and Benefits:
- Salary £27,627 per annum
