RSK Raw part of the RSK Group have an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Scientist to join our team in Newbury, UK.

RSK RAW offers multi-disciplinary environmental protection and risk reduction services to a wide range of industries and clients across the UK, and are specialists in the provision of spill response, contamination investigation and remediation projects.

The Role:

The successful candidate will be required to assist our project teams with the organisation and execution of projects, including the procurement of materials and contractors, site supervision and investigation work, and preparation of reports, whilst ensuring compliance with Company procedures.

Duties and expectations will include, but not be limited to:

  • Rapid response to environmental incidents in a variety of urban and rural settings;
  • Pro-active assessment of pollution risks to the environment and the application of a variety of techniques for containing and recovering oils or other contaminants of concern;
  • Undertaking Phase I and Phase II site investigations;
  • Soil, air and water sampling & logging;
  • Monitoring and collating data from site works, including monitoring of in-situ remediation systems, air quality, and other parameters;
  • Organising, undertaking, and supervising site works;
  • Liaising with contractors, client and third parties;
  • Preparing factual and interpretative reports
  • Preparing cost proposals;
  • Preparing Health and Safety documentation, including method statements, risk assessments and site records;
  • Adherence to RSK Raw management systems, including site specific and point of work health & safety risk assessments and method statements;
  • Maintaining accurate site notes, and excellent time management, organisational and communication skills at all times;
  • Maintaining positive relationships with clients and interested parties, including ensuring a high standard of work and presentation;
  • Routine care maintenance and/or calibration of equipment and vehicles;
  • To ensure maximum flexibility and to reflect the Company\’s evolving needs, you may be asked to perform additional tasks that may be reasonably expected within your level of capability without additional remuneration.

Additional information:

  • We operate a 24/7 response service for our clients, as such you may be required to work out of normal operating hours, for which you are compensated.
  • Although regionally focussed, there will be a need for travel to cover the needs of the business throughout England, Scotland, and Wales.
  • The occasional need to stay away from home when required.
  • Incident response and tank testing training is provided, and other training and development opportunities will be available.
  • There are opportunities available for collaborative working with other Response and Remediation businesses with the RSK Group.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • At least 2 years’ relevant industry experience;
  • A degree level qualification in an environment/land related subject.
  • CSCS card;
  • Good literacy and reporting skills;
  • Flexible attitude to work;
  • Enthusiasm and drive to deliver the requirements of this role;
  • The ability to work as an effective member of a team and on your own initiative;
  • Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills; and,
  • Full UK/EC driving licence

Additionally, a practical background or experience dealing with spill events, will also be an advantage.
