EDP UK is looking for an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Consultant to join our team in London.
This is a great opportunity for someone in the early stages of their EHS career who wants to build broad, practical experience within a professional consulting environment.
Working predominantly from our client's Canary Wharf site, you'll support a multi-year EMEA assurance programme covering environmental and health & safety compliance, building risk assessments and wider EHS activities across a diverse portfolio of operational sites.
You'll be at the centre of the programme, working with experienced consultants, EHS professionals, facilities teams and site stakeholders across different locations. From coordinating assessments and tracking actions through to analysing trends and producing management reports, you'll gain exposure to a wide range of EHS activity and develop your technical knowledge along the way.
You'll help keep the EMEA assessment programme organised and moving, including:
- Coordinating EHS and health & safety compliance evaluations and building risk assessments across EMEA locations.
- Working with external consultants, EHS and H& S managers, site teams, facilities colleagues and other stakeholders.
- Supporting assessment planning, gathering relevant documentation, arranging access and coordinating stakeholder meetings.
- Maintaining programme schedules and monitoring site visits, reports, deliverables and agreed service levels.
- Identifying potential delays, access issues, information gaps and other programme risks and escalating these appropriately.
An important part of the role will be making sure findings don't simply sit on a report. You'll:
- Maintain a central record of findings and corrective actions arising from assessments, inspections and investigations.
- Make sure actions have clear owners, priorities, target dates and evidence requirements.
- Follow up with action owners and help keep activities progressing towards closure.
- Gather supporting evidence and work with EHS and H& S specialists where technical verification is needed.
- Highlight overdue, high-priority or recurring issues through the appropriate governance processes.
You'll also help turn programme information into clear, useful management reporting by:
- Preparing regular reports and dashboards covering planned and completed assessments, report status and outstanding actions.
- Supporting governance and service review meetings with agendas, presentations, updates and action logs.Helping identify recurring findings and emerging trends that can inform continuous improvement and risk reduction.
- Maintaining accurate programme records, documents and supporting evidence.
As your experience develops, you'll have opportunities to support wider environmental and health & safety activities, including:
- Accident, incident and near-miss investigations.
- Information gathering and root-cause analysis.
- Corrective action tracking.
- Preparing and reviewing risk assessments for internal events and workplace activities.
- Supporting other EHS and H& S priorities for the client.
What we're looking for
We're looking for someone who is organised, inquisitive and comfortable taking ownership of their work. You don't need to know everything on day one. What's important is that you have a good foundation and are keen to develop.
Ideally, you'll have:
- A degree, diploma or equivalent qualification in environmental science, environmental management, occupational health and safety, or a related discipline.
- Around 1 - 3 years' relevant experience within EHS, health & safety, facilities, compliance, risk management, audit coordination or a related area.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple activities, stakeholders and deadlines.
- Excellent attention to detail, particularly around documentation, records and following actions through to completion.
- Confident written and verbal communication skills.
- Good analytical and reporting skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- A collaborative approach and an interest in developing your knowledge across both environmental and health & safety disciplines.
It would be an advantage if you have
- Membership of, or are working towards, a recognised professional qualification such as IOSH or an equivalent professional body.
- Experience supporting audits, inspections, compliance reviews or assurance programmes.
- Experience with action-tracking, incident-reporting, audit-management or dashboard systems.
- Awareness of UK environmental and occupational health & safety management systems and regulatory requirements. Wider EMEA knowledge would also be advantageous.
- Experience gained within a corporate, financial services, property or facilities environment.
The person
You’ll suit this role if you’re someone who enjoys bringing structure to a busy programme and making sure things actually get done.
You’ll be comfortable building relationships with different stakeholders, following up when something needs attention and working independently when required. You’ll also have a practical approach to problem solving and a genuine interest in developing your career within environmental, health and safety.
Most importantly, we’re looking for someone with curiosity, good judgement and strong follow-through, rather than someone who already has years of specialist experience.
Why join EDP UK?
This role offers the opportunity to develop your EHS career while gaining exposure to a complex, international programme and working alongside experienced professionals.
For someone early in their career, it’s a chance to build experience across compliance, auditing, risk assessment, incident investigation, reporting, stakeholder management and programme coordination, rather than being limited to one narrow area of EHS.
If you’re looking for your next step and want a role where you can develop your technical knowledge while taking genuine responsibility for your own work, we’d like to hear from you.
