What You’ll Be Doing
As a Waste and Resources Consultant, you will work closely with other technical colleagues within our team to provide sustainable waste and resource management solutions to our clients. Initially, you will be working on specialist projects relating to waste assessment and classification to establish foundational knowledge and experience:
- Completing waste assessments and classification of construction, demolition, and excavation wastes in general accordance with WM3 and other related guidance.
- Managing projects from start to finish, including handling of large data sets, preparing technical reports, managing project finances and liaising with clients.
- Conducting occasional site visits to undertake sampling, inspection and/or supervision of waste generating practices.
Following the initial specialist project work, the role will broaden to include working collaboratively with colleagues and managing your own projects to deliver a wide range of outputs. This will support the development of your knowledge and expertise in broader waste and resource management, including:
- Identifying and implementing sustainable solutions for waste and materials management in the civil and land development sectors.
- Advising clients on material reuse mechanisms and regulatory compliance.
- Supporting environmental permitting activities, including applications, variations and surrenders.
- Preparing waste and materials management plans and associated documentation.
- Providing clear, practical advice and guidance to clients before, during and after project delivery.
Who We’re Looking For
Ideal candidates will have:
- A degree in Chemistry, Material Chemistry or a Geoscience-related subject (MSc preferred).
- Demonstrable experience and technical competence in waste classification and assessment in accordance with WM3 and other related guidance.
- Understanding of legislation and policy in the UK.
- Experience within the contaminated land sector or working for an environmental consultancy would be advantageous but not essential.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- A proactive and adaptable mindset, eager to contribute to projects and the wider team.
- A valid UK driving licence and willingness to spend some working days away from the office and home at times.
- Located within an hour of Bristol / Manchester.
