Milner Associates, part of the RSK Group are recruiting for a Senior Structural Engineer (Timber engineering, offsite prefabrication and expert consultancy sector) to join the team based in Bristol.
This is a full time, permanent position, working from the office ideally minimum 3 days per week.
Responsibilities
- This is a Senior role within the Milner Associates team (which is part of the larger Materials & Structures Business Group)
- You will be a capable structural design engineer, able to work independently and to supervise and check the work of junior colleagues within the team.
- You will be able to support our graduates in their pursuit of chartered status by acting as a Delegated Engineer for our Approved ICE Training Scheme
- You will be required to attend design team and client meetings, site meetings and inspections.
- You will be managing your own projects and assisting with fee proposals and tenders for new work
- We expect Senior staff to assist with business development and marketing activities
- We work nationwide, so travel within the UK and some overnight stays will be required
Qualifications and Experience
- An interest in timber as a structural material, sustainability, building physics and fire related issues would be beneficial although we will provide training and experience in these areas.
- The ability to write calculation routines from first principles using MS Excel, Mathcad and hand calculations would be beneficial.
- Undergraduate/Masters’ Degree in Structural and/or Civil Engineering
- CEng Chartered in IStructE and/or ICE
- Proven experience post-chartership
- Demonstrable experience of working at a Project Lead/Senior level, including management of staff
- Structural design experience in a variety of materials (timber/concrete/masonry/steel) is essential.
- Experience of construction on site is essential
- Experience of carrying out Structural inspections and report writing is desirable
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience with 3D Analysis software (e.g RFEM), MS Excel, Mathcad, Tekla Structural Designer or similar design software is desirable – training can be arranged if required.
- Full driving licence
