The successful candidate will work with a wide range of farming and corporate businesses, retailers, representative organisations and government bodies. The emphasis will be on good communication and organisational skills, preparation of high-quality written material, handling data and being able to present information to clients and groups. Over time, the consultant would be expected to prepare bids for new livestock consultancy projects and to identify opportunities for new business, individually or as part of a group.

ADAS ALM, a member of RSK Group Ltd, is looking to recruit a motivated and ambitious livestock systems specialist to cover North Wales and further afield, to deliver and expand our range of consultancy projects. The role would involve working within our well-established livestock consultancy group and would involve flexible hybrid home and office working, with support from our Aberystwyth office. You will be involved in various projects across all our business sectors. The key criteria are that you have a genuine curiosity and willingness to learn, and an interest in working in the livestock and environmental sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with a wide range of farming and corporate businesses, retailers, representative organisations and government bodies.
  • Prepare high-quality written material, handle data and present information to clients and groups.
  • Prepare bids for new livestock consultancy projects and identify opportunities for new business.
  • Gather information and draft reports, including visits to farms and other premises to support current consultancy projects.
  • Support the industry to adapt to policy changes, the sustainability agenda and implement innovation to improve productivity.
  • Collaborate with other livestock consultants covering ruminant and poultry work.
  • Travel to project sites across Wales, the Borders and other parts of the UK as required.

Qualifications

  • Degree or a postgraduate qualification relevant to livestock, or a related degree with relevant practical experience.
  • Excellent report‑writing skills using MS Word and data handling using MS Excel.
  • Willingness and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good computer literacy with the ability to use the full suite of Microsoft Office programmes.
  • Full driving licence and own transport.
  • Flexibility in the range of work undertaken.

  • Understanding of livestock production systems in the UK.
  • A broad appreciation of the issues facing the UK livestock sector and the changes likely to occur in the future.
  • Skills in using social media for marketing purposes and mobile application development for farm data management.
  • Ability to communicate in Welsh.
