Job Description:

Location: Nationwide, UK ¦ Sector: Environmental Permitting, Compliance, and Advisory

Are you ready to shape the future of UK infrastructure and industry through expert environmental permitting? RSK Group is looking for a Senior or Principal Permitting Consultant to lead on critical regulatory projects, helping clients navigate the complexities of Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR) and maintain full compliance in a changing legislative landscape.

This is your opportunity to step into a pivotal consulting role that directly influences sustainable development and environmental protection across sectors including manufacturing, utilities, infrastructure, and energy.

The Role
We’re seeking a confident and capable environmental professional with deep permitting expertise who is:

  • Experienced in EPR applications and variations, from bespoke installations to discharge and flood risk activity permits.
  • Comfortable leading conversations with regulators, clients, and internal teams alike, translating policy into practice.
  • Ready to mentor and manage junior consultants, driving team performance and professional growth.
  • Eager to support strategic development, improve delivery systems, and shape our environmental permitting offering.

Geographic Scope
This is a hybrid role, open to candidates across the UK, with ad hoc travel to Manchester or Leeds or Birmingham to collaborate with colleagues and clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Permitting Delivery: Take ownership of complex environmental permit applications and variations, ensuring regulatory compliance and technical excellence.
  • Client & Regulator Liaison: Serve as the key point of contact for stakeholders—guiding clients through permitting pathways and engaging effectively with regulators such as the EA, NRW, SEPA, and Local Authorities.
  • Technical Assurance: Oversee quality across deliverables, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and commercial value.
  • Team Leadership: Support junior consultants with mentoring, workload management, and performance monitoring.
  • Team Collaboration: Manage and Collaborate multi-disciplinary teams across the RSK Group.
  • Business Growth: Contribute to proposal writing, service development, and expanding our permitting portfolio.
  • Regulatory Insight: Stay ahead of legislative changes, advising both clients and internal teams on evolving requirements.

What You Bring

  • Strong track record preparing and managing EPR applications across multiple sectors.
  • In-depth understanding of UK environmental permitting legislation and frameworks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence presenting complex information to varied audiences.
  • Proven leadership experience, either formally or through mentoring and project oversight.
  • Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Bonus Points: Chartered status (or working toward it), experience in EIA or compliance-related disciplines, and a background in project or programme management.

Why Join RSK?

  • Meaningful Work: Influence the environmental integrity of major UK infrastructure and industrial projects.
  • Rewarding Package: £40,000–£60,000 salary, comprehensive benefits, and flexible hybrid working.
  • Professional Development: Ongoing CPD, support for chartership, and structured career progression.
  • Collaborative Culture: Work alongside industry-leading experts in a business committed to sustainability and innovation.

Be a Trusted Advisor. Be a Change-Maker.
This is more than a technical role, it’s a strategic position at the heart of environmental compliance and regulation. If you’re ready to lead high-impact permitting projects and contribute to a more sustainable future, apply today and join RSK’s growing environmental consultancy team.
