RSK Biocensus, part of the RSK Group, is recruiting a full-time, permanent Senior Ornithologist to join our growing ecology team in Cardiff. This position can be hybrid, with home and office working options available. You’ll need to be willing to travel and stay away from home on occasions, and in return we will offer exciting and fulfilling projects and continuous professional development.

Key responsibilities:

  • Co-ordinating and undertaking a broad range of BBS, winter bird surveys, species specific surveys, offshore surveys and vantage point surveys
  • Designing and implementing mitigation strategies
  • Financial management of projects
  • Production of tenders and reports
  • Project management, report writing and delivery
  • Providing ornithological support on projects for the wider team
  • Managing and mentoring junior members of the team

Qualifications:

  • Previous, relevant experience in a similar role, ideally in commercial consultancy, although this is not a necessity
  • Technically competent and able to undertake the full range of bird surveys
  • Good team player, with the ability to work independently
  • Enthusiasm, energy and drive to develop skills and deliver projects to the highest standard
  • Excellent report writing skills, including survey reports, EcIAs, HRAs and tenders
  • Full driving licence
  • Appropriate membership of CIEEM (dependent on grade, or eligibility if not currently held)
