Chem Resist, part of the RSE Group, is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Health and Safety Advisor to join our team in Dewsbury. In this role, you will be responsible for leading and maintaining effective health and safety practices, policies, and procedures throughout the organisation. The role will involve providing guidance, training, and support to ensure compliance with legal requirements and best practices.
Some of Your Key Duties Include:
- Operational Oversight & Compliance
- Daily Shop Floor Inspections: Promoting a safe working environment and positive safety observations through engagement with our manufacturing workforce.
- Permit-to-Work (PTW) Management: Issuing and monitoring permits for high-risk tasks such as Hot Work, Work at Height & Electrical Isolation for contractor work.
- Equipment Compliance: Ensuring all machinery (Band Saws, CNCs, overhead cranes etc) undergoes statutory inspections under regulations like PUWER and LOLER.
- Risk Assessments & Method Statements (RAMS): Developing specific assessments for fabrication processes and review at regular intervals.
- Health Surveillance: Monitoring workers' exposure to noise, hand-arm vibration (HAVS) from grinders, and hazardous welding fumes (COSHH).
- Toolbox Talks (TBTs): Leading brief, focused safety briefings for shopfloor to discuss specific hazards and improvements needed.
- Emergency Preparedness: Planning and executing drills for fire evacuations and/or first-aid emergencies.
- Accident Investigation: Using root cause analysis to investigate near-misses and accidents, interviewing witnesses, and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- HSE Reporting: Compiling monthly safety statistics (e.g., Lost Time Injuries) for management and ensuring mandatory reporting to government authorities (like RIDDOR in the UK).
- Management Systems: Assisting in maintaining and auditing internal safety standards and external ISO certifications, eg 45001.
What Do You Need?
- NEBOSH general (Level 3) essential (or working towards)
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment
- Construction experience would be highly beneficial
- Practical understanding and approach to managing QHSE, with a focus on building relationships with delivery teams
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Sound knowledge of Health & Safety legislation
- Experience in the application of Health & Safety practices in both manufacturing and construction sites.
- Utilities experience highly advantageous.
- Full UK Driving Licence
