The Role
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will play a key role in the day-to-day management of a busy engineering department responsible for maintaining a modern fleet of buses, including the latest electric vehicle technology.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the Engineering Manager in leading the engineering function
- Ensuring maximum fleet availability and vehicle reliability
- Maintaining compliance with DVSA, operator, and industry standards
- Promoting a strong Health & Safety culture across the workshop
- Managing employee wellbeing and fatigue management processes
- Supervising engineering teams and supporting their development
- Assisting with maintenance planning and operational performance
- Driving continuous improvement across workshop operations
Requirements
- Previous supervisory or management experience within a commercial vehicle, HGV, PSV, bus, coach, or fleet maintenance environment
- Strong understanding of vehicle maintenance and mechanical engineering
- Knowledge of electrical systems and vehicle bodywork repairs
- Experience managing workshop teams and operational performance
- Excellent planning, organisational, and decision-making skills
- Good understanding of Health & Safety legislation
- Ability to obtain a Transport Manager CPC if required
PSV experience is highly desirable, although candidates from HGV, commercial vehicle, fleet, plant, or similar heavy vehicle backgrounds will also be considered.
