We are currently recruiting for a Lead Database Engineer to join our established and experienced CIO team here at RSA on a hybrid basis.

Your Role

The Lead Database Engineer is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and optimization of large-scale ETL systems, with a strong focus on IBM Infosphere DataStage technologies.

The role involves guiding a team of engineers, overseeing critical operations, and ensuring the integrity, performance, and security of ETL systems. This role involves both hands-on technical work and leadership responsibilities.

The Lead Database Engineer collaborates closely with other platform teams and architects to gather requirements, define goals, and allocate resources effectively. The Lead Database Engineer also actively participates in technical discussions, code reviews, and decision-making processes to drive technical excellence and innovation within the platform team.

About You

We are looking for candidates that have:

  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in IBM Infosphere DataStage, with at least 2 years in a leadership or senior engineering role.
  • Strong hands-on experience with T-SQL, and PowerShell/Bash scripting in SQL Server environments.
  • Extensive experience with DataStage for ETL processes, including package design, deployment, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong proficiency in PowerShell/Bash scripting for automating database tasks, maintenance, and deployments.
  • Deep understanding of relevant regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR) and how to ensure compliance through database architecture and management
  • Analytical skills to assess and optimize ETL performance and lead strategic decisions for scalability

We are looking for accountabilities such as:

ETL Design & Architecture

  • Lead the design and management of highly scalable data platform systems, ensuring adherence to industry standards

Database/ETL Design, Performance Tuning & Optimization

  • Work with Database Engineers to manage performance tuning strategies, optimizing queries, stored procedures, and databases using T-SQL.

Team Leadership & Mentorship

  • Conduct Performance review, goal setting and provide constructive feedback to enhance individual and team performance.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

Work with platform teams and architects to ensure that database systems support business objectives

Incident & Problem Management

  • Lead incident resolution for critical database issues, ensuring minimal downtime and impact on business operations.
  • Establish root cause analysis practices and ensure that solutions are implemented to prevent recurring issues.
  • Document and maintain knowledge of troubleshooting methods, contributing to a knowledge base for future problem resolution.
