The Opportunity

This is a key role responsible for leading Facilities and Maintenance across our large distribution centre. You will ensure the site, equipment and services operate safely and efficiently while supporting operational performance and long term business objectives. This opportunity is ideal for a skilled Facilities or Engineering Manager who enjoys variety, ownership and the chance to shape site standards, strategy and culture. You will lead a capable team, manage essential assets and budgets and work closely with senior leaders to drive improvement and operational excellence.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Lead all Health and Safety activity, ensuring safe working practices, risk management and compliance for staff and contractors.
  • Manage, develop and motivate the team through training, coaching and structured performance management.
  • Ensure high availability of building services, equipment and MHE through planned maintenance, rapid fault resolution and strong oversight of spares and upgrades.
  • Build effective communication and engagement within the department and maintain a positive, open working environment.
  • Oversee the performance of site buildings, equipment and systems, delivering efficient and reliable facilities operations.
  • Provide clear, solutions focused support to operational leaders and develop strong internal working relationships.
  • Manage departmental budgets across resource, capital and operational spend and ensure value from suppliers and contracts.
  • Maintain full compliance with legal, regulatory, insurance and internal standards relating to buildings, utilities and equipment.
  • Lead and support enhancement projects from planning to delivery, ensuring timelines, costs and safety expectations are met.
  • Apply continuous improvement and 5S to drive efficiency, quality and improved working practices.
  • Select and manage contractors effectively, ensuring strong safety, quality and cost control.
  • Support the delivery of soft services including security, catering, cleaning and vending.
  • Ensure departmental processes and systems including the CMMS are well maintained and support required ISO standards.
  • Contribute to wider business, UK and EMEA facilities and maintenance strategy.

Scope of Role

Responsible for the performance of the Corby facility including buildings and equipment maintenance. Safety 500,000 sq. ft distribution centre supporting 600 employees. Conveyance and automated handling systems, bin and pallet cranes, MHE fleet, Office facilities, car park and grounds.

Primary property related responsibilities

  • Utilities including gas, electrical supply, HV and LV and emergency power generation, fire and sprinkler systems, security and cleaning, water, air, alarm and CCTV systems, HVAC and lifts, building fabric and grounds maintenance, MHE including conveyors, cranes and picking trucks.

What You Will Bring

  • A strong understanding of reactive and planned preventative maintenance and best practice.
  • Engineering or facilities related qualification such as HNC, HND or degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience leading facilities, engineering or maintenance teams within a large operational or industrial environment.
  • Technical knowledge of building services including electrical supply, HVAC, fire safety, alarms and critical infrastructure.
  • Experience with MHE including conveyors, cranes, sortation and FLTs.
  • Strong Health and Safety knowledge including safe systems of work and contractor control.
  • Project management capability including planning, reporting and budget control.
  • Strong procurement, negotiation and contractor management skills.
  • Good understanding of legislative, insurance and compliance requirements for property and equipment.
  • Experience managing sizeable budgets with a focus on efficiency and cost control.
  • Confident communicator who can build strong working relationships across teams.
  • A proactive mindset with commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
