We are recruiting for a Senior Registered Building Inspector to support the delivery of Building Control services within a local authority setting. This role will focus on managing a portfolio of complex developments, ensuring compliance with Building Regulations and supporting enforcement and advisory functions. You will manage your own caseload across a range of projects, providing technical expertise, supporting colleagues and contributing to service delivery.
Rate: £540 per day
Location: North London
Key Responsibilities- Manage a caseload of Class 2A–2E development sites, including plan checking, site inspections and maintaining accurate records.
- Assess compliance with Building Regulations, the Building Act 1984 and associated legislation and technical standards.
- Respond to dangerous structures callouts and participate in an out-of-hours rota.
- Investigate complaints, unauthorised works and contraventions, supporting and initiating enforcement action where required.
- Prepare evidence for legal proceedings and attend court or hearings as required.
- Provide advice and guidance to applicants, agents, contractors and members of the public.
- Review fire statements at pre-application stage and provide technical input where required.
- Support the Team Manager in delivering the Building Control service, including supervision of other inspectors.
- Provide support and oversight to Class 1 and Class 2A inspectors, including delegated tasks where appropriate.
- Contribute to quality management systems and ensure compliance with service standards.
- Progress applications and support the issuing of completion certificates in line with delegation arrangements.
- Work in accordance with the Code of Conduct for Registered Building Inspectors.
- Registered Senior Building Inspector (Class 2D–2E) with the Building Safety Regulator.
- Membership of a relevant professional body (RICS, CABE, CIOB or equivalent).
- Extensive knowledge of Building Regulations, construction methods, legislation and best practice.
- Experience managing a caseload of complex developments within Building Control.
- Ability to carry out plan assessments, site inspections and enforcement activities.
- Experience investigating complaints and supporting legal or enforcement processes.
- Strong communication skills and ability to engage with a range of stakeholders.
- Experience supervising or mentoring other inspectors.
- Confident using IT systems and managing records.
