Liverpool City Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Area Team Leader to join our Building Control team. This is a senior leadership role responsible for managing a team of Building Control professionals while supporting the delivery of a high-quality, customer-focused and commercially competitive service.

The Role

  • Lead and manage a team of Building Control Officers, Plan Examiners and Trainees
  • Oversee Building Regulation compliance across a wide range of developments including complex and high-rise schemes
  • Support the Building Safety Regulator and ensure compliance with Operational Standards Rules and KPIs
  • Manage enforcement matters including dangerous structures, demolitions and Building Act legislation
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership on major projects from pre-application through to completion
  • Assist with financial monitoring, fee proposals and service performance
  • Deputise for the Head of Building Control when required
  • Participate in emergency call-out and sports ground safety inspections

About You

We are looking for a highly experienced Building Control professional with:

  • Professional membership such as Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, Chartered Association of Building Engineers or Chartered Institute of Building
  • LABC/CIOB Level 6 qualification or equivalent experience
  • Specialist competency including Class 3H under the Building Safety Regulator framework
  • Extensive experience managing complex commercial and residential developments
  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • Excellent knowledge of Building Regulations, enforcement and Building Safety legislation
  • Commercial awareness and experience monitoring performance and KPIs
