RPS seeks Trainee Leakage Engineers to join our Water Operations Division in Wales. Roles are available in West, North East, North West and South Wales. Our team of Leakage Engineers is at the heart of our strategic priorities – to deliver great work for our clients by providing excellent customer service and executing complex operational tasks. This is a permanent, full‑time position working Monday to Friday 07:00 – 15:30, plus overtime, bonus and benefits. You will also be allocated a company van.
About The Team
The RPS Asset, Surveying, and Inspection (AS&I) team provides industry‑leading services to the UK Water Industry. Our employees support Water Networks, Drainage, Surveying, Leakage Consultancy, Water Resources and Efficiency. The team analyses complex data and offers pragmatic solutions, including reducing water leakage and preventing flooding and pollution in local communities.
Our Welsh Water asset‑management and delivery professionals develop and deliver industry‑leading solutions in flooding, pollution, water quality and leakage. We find and repair leaks on the network to minimise water wastage, benefiting Welsh Water customers and the environment.
About You
As a key member of the AS&I business, your role as Trainee Leakage Technician is critical to our strategic priorities – to deliver great work for our clients by providing excellent customer service and executing complex operational tasks. You will need to work flexibly, including weekends, evenings and overtime if required. Be willing to travel to different locations. It is essential that you enjoy working outdoors, rain or shine.
Your Responsibilities
- Assess, diagnose, and determine the most appropriate solution to reduce leakage and fully support the delivery of regulatory targets while delivering a great service for clients.
- Ensure that Health and Safety is maintained.
- Achieve KPI targets and deliver leakage detection/reduction within DMA’s.
- Attend excavations requested by R&M to assist leak location.
- Train and mentor assistant Leakage Technicians.
- Assume responsibility for general admin tasks, including electronic timesheet submissions, weekly vehicle checks and defect reporting.
- Form and maintain excellent working relationships with colleagues, contractors and the client.
Skills, Knowledge, And Experience
- Any prior experience in a similar role is useful, but we will train you in water network hydraulics, leakage detection techniques, monitoring and reporting of leakage levels and other issues associated with the clean water industry.
- You will want to learn and build knowledge of utility tracing, noise logging and step‑testing planning/operation to build your experience in leakage monitoring, pressure/flow and flow data capture techniques.
- Be able to work well under pressure and conflicting deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and high standards.
- Be a team player who wants to solve problems within defined procedures and who is flexible, cooperative and willing to share knowledge.
- Have great written and verbal communication skills.
- Be customer‑focused and able to build and maintain excellent working relationships.
- Work quickly and accurately to report on findings.
Qualifications
- Full UK driving licence.
- Health And Safety.
- Move heavy items, including inspection chamber covers.
- Work in all weather conditions, including night work.
- Work in confined spaces and on highways.
- Mandatory drugs and alcohol tests will be undertaken for this role, and a DBS check will be required.
