Bring your technical precision to a role that directly protects people and assets. Join a quality driven team delivering UKAS accredited asbestos surveys, air monitoring and consultancy across complex commercial and industrial estates. You’ll apply robust methodology, produce defensible reporting and give pragmatic guidance that helps clients confidently manage asbestos risk to regulatory standards and recognised best practice.

The role will cover locations across the Southeast and London, as well as the Darlington area in the Northeast. In addition to the very competitive salary and overtime rates, we also offer a company car or a car allowance, giving you the flexibility and support you need for your role.

Purpose & Scope of the Role

The role safeguards operational environments by delivering technically rigorous asbestos consultancy across a varied portfolio of live sites and development projects. You will plan and execute asbestos surveys, air monitoring and analytical verification, while producing clear, accurate and auditable reports that stand up to scrutiny. Working both independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams, you will interact closely with clients, asbestos removal contractors, accredited laboratories and internal colleagues to ensure work is executed safely, proportionately and in line with UK regulatory requirements and UKAS standards. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will support single site assignments as well as complex, multilocation projects for major commercial and industrial properties.

Your Impact in this position

From day one, you’ll consolidate and extend your technical capability across surveying, analysis and consultancy, supported by structured training and mentoring. As you progress, you’ll take ownership of more complex client portfolios, lead on project delivery and broaden your advisory remit in asbestos management and compliance. Longer term, the role provides a defined pathway into senior consultancy, technical leadership or project management, with ongoing professional development underpinning your career trajectory.

Your Toolkit for Success at Tetra Tech RPS

At Tetra Tech RPS we recruit using core capabilities – the toolkit of essential skills, experience, competencies and responsibilities required to perform the role effectively. As we strive to find the best fit for this position, we are seeking individuals that meet a benchmark level of expertise. But we’ll let you in on a secret: there’s no such thing as the ‘perfect’ candidate. If you feel you meet 75% of the requirements for this role, we would love to hear from you.

Asbestos Technical Expertise & Compliance

Expertise in asbestos surveying, air monitoring and consultancy is key, backed by solid understanding of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, HSG264, HSG248 and UKAS requirements. You will select proportionate methodologies for diverse building types and project phases, tailoring sampling strategies, analytical techniques and management advice to the risk profile. Your decisions are evidence based, well documented and fully auditable, with a commitment to staying ahead of regulatory updates and technical best practice.

Safety & Risk Assessment

You are to be a visible safety leader, able to identify hazards in live environments, assess risk accurately and set appropriate controls without compromising project delivery. Proactive engagement with licensed and non licensed asbestos activities is essential, with decisive intervention when standards fall and, where necessary, pausing works to protect health, safety and the public. Your calm judgement under pressure and learning mindset as well as drawing on incidents, near misses and audit findings will drive continuous improvement.

Technical Reporting

You will transform site data, analytical results and observational evidence into reports that are precise, logically structured and aligned with regulatory and client expectations. Your discipline in record keeping, chain of custody, quality assurance and control procedures ensures the integrity of every output. You own the quality of your work, welcome peer review, address issues early and help maintain consistent UKAS aligned standards across deliverables.

Stakeholder Communication

Required to act as a trusted technical adviser who can translate complex risks, survey findings and legal duties into clear, context specific guidance. Whether engaging with clients, project managers, contractors or colleagues, you adapt your style for technical and nontechnical audiences alike, enabling effective decision making particularly during sensitive remediation or regulatory interactions.

Operational Delivery & Time Management

You plan and prioritise effectively across multiple sites and deadlines, coordinating travel, surveys, analysis and reporting to meet commitments without compromising safety or quality. You will be self sufficient on site and collaborative in multidisciplinary teams, using digital survey tools, reporting platforms and standard office software to deliver efficiently. Your adaptability and resilience help you respond positively to changing conditions and client needs.

Qualifications & Experience

You will hold relevant BOHS modules, including P402, P403 and P404, or recognised RSPH equivalents, with proven experience delivering asbestos activities within a UKAS accredited organisation. You are to have a full UK driving licence and a track record of producing compliant, high quality work across surveys, air monitoring and consultancy.

Working Environment

This is a hybrid role combining site based surveying and air monitoring with remote or office based analysis, reporting and collaboration. Site visits are planned in advance to support workload balance and operational readiness. Office attendance is expected periodically for team collaboration, training, quality reviews and project meetings, with frequency aligned to project needs. You will travel to client locations as required and, on occasion, support activities outside standard hours. We support flexible arrangements, including three or four day working weeks. Overtime opportunities may be available and are remunerated at enhanced rates.
