Overview

RPS, a Tetra Tech company, is seeking an Ecology Apprentice to join our team. Based in Abingdon-On-Thames, England, United Kingdom, you will gain hands-on field experience in ecology while developing your skills and knowledge. The Ecology team supports renewable energy, residential, commercial and infrastructure projects across England, Scotland and Wales, including offshore and onshore wind and solar, helping to deliver clean energy to the UK market.

The Role

The Ecology Apprentice will work with experienced ecologists on field surveys, reporting and biodiversity monitoring to support planning applications and conservation efforts. You will have the opportunity to learn through practical fieldwork and professional development.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Assist with ecological surveys and fieldwork, collecting data on wildlife, habitats, and ecosystems alongside experienced ecologists.
  • Support the preparation of ecological reports and documentation in line with industry standards and environmental legislation.
  • Help monitor and record biodiversity to contribute to conservation and environmental management projects.
  • Work closely with project teams, clients, and stakeholders to support successful delivery of ecological assessments for planning applications.
  • Follow health and safety procedures during all field activities to ensure safe working environments.
  • Engage in ongoing learning and development via your chosen course to build your expertise and progress within the ecology profession – leading to a BSc degree.

  • Willingness to learn new skills and take initiative in practical, outdoor settings.
  • Basic knowledge of biology or environmental science is beneficial but not essential.
  • Reliability, enthusiasm, and a strong commitment to developing a career in ecology.

Qualifications

  • Recent college leaver with Level 2 or Level 3 qualifications in relevant subjects such as Biology, Environmental Science, or related fields.
  • A-level in both English and Maths.
  • A valid driver’s license is desirable but not essential.
  • Willingness to undertake further training and qualifications as part of the apprenticeship program.
