Overview
Join to apply for the Commercial Assistant role at RPS. This (hybrid) role can be based in Birmingham, Abingdon or Cardiff.
The role involves supporting the monitoring and reviewing of project financial performance within the business unit, advising colleagues involved in the financial performance of projects. You will work closely with Commercial Managers and the finance team to develop commercial awareness and performance, bringing consistency in approach. Key targets include growth of Gross Revenue and Net Revenue, improved profit margins, and improvements in Backlog and DSO, to support the delivery of financial targets.
The post holder will report directly to a Commercial Manager and will help develop the quality of project managers and discipline leads in commercial matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with the Commercial Manager to implement a strategy to improve and bring consistency to project financial performance.
- Collaborate with colleagues to generate greater business synergies.
- Contribute to monthly reports for the Commercial Manager and the Operations Director, with updates on significant successes, challenges and opportunities.
Clients
- Foster a client-focused culture, emphasising clients in communications.
- Work with colleagues to promote deliverable solutions, using appropriate communications channels and in-person meetings.
- Help promote the consultancy offer and, where possible, Tetra Tech wider services.
People
- Develop and maintain a culture that supports staff development and aims for attrition no greater than 10% per annum.
- Understand and support company values, focusing on People, health and wellbeing, and creating an environment for staff to excel professionally and personally.
Engagement
- Apply positive, proactive internal and external engagement and communications, working with the Commercial Manager, Operations Director and Finance team.
- Maintain effective and motivated engagement and communications.
- Support the development of the People’s project financial management skills.

- Contribute to initiatives and ensure compliance with all company processes and procedures in a timely manner.
- Follow the company’s delegation of authority and policies.
- Drive a continuous improvement mindset and activities across the business.
Skills/Experience Required
- Sound financial experience in financial management within a consultancy setting; excellent communications skills and good business acumen.
- Ability to develop the Project Managers and discipline leads’ commercial knowledge.
- Good interpersonal, influencing and negotiation skills.
- Some knowledge and experience of legal requirements, policies, standards and guidance relevant to the business.
- Commercial awareness with understanding of financial and economic drivers within the discipline.
- Good people skills and good financial and project management skills.
- Takes ownership to achieve positive outcomes.
